After having had a successful home birth after 9 months of Adele Davis eating in preparation for delivery of a healthy baby, I got a clogged milk duct about 4 weeks in. Fortunately my parents-in-law were visiting and my 'other' mom was very familiar with such things as she was a midwife and just an overall natural kinda gal. I lucked out, what can I say?! No meds for me MAINLY because I didn't want to drug the baby! So, very warm compresses did the trick, and since we caught it early, it didn't last long. So glad midwives have been around forever and they know just what to do! Funny, it happened with my second son, never with my first, same as you! Yes, rest, rest, REST, and drink plenty of fluids. Googling for answers can really help you out, too! Get better soon, Allie!
@karinjones43802 ай бұрын
When making milk it takes energy from your body to do so … so rest/ nap when your baby does. It is probably quite challenging to rest in a house with all that remodeling going on, but somehow you need to do it and find a place to do it even if it’s in the car. Nurse often on request. I loved nursing ❤ do everything to sustain it.

@kathythorene5873 I'm an RN too..not OB but when you say "meds" are you referring to Atbs? Which may or my not be necessary if she nurses and empties the breast seems only anti-inflammatory Tylenol or Motrin would be needed. But I would certainly check with her Ob which I'm sure she's already better as we are watching this pre recorded..jmo

Hi Allie and greetings from a fan from Finland! Finnish mothers have traditionally used cabbage leaves to help treat mastitis. Cabbage contains compounds that are believed to reduce swelling and relieve pain. Here's a common way to use cabbage leaves for mastitis: Chill the cabbage leaves: Take a few green cabbage leaves and place them in the fridge to cool. The cold leaves can help soothe inflammation and reduce pain. Clean and prepare the leaves: Remove the thick stem from the middle of the leaves and shape them so they fit comfortably over your breasts. Place the leaves on your breasts: Apply the chilled cabbage leaves directly to the skin, especially over the inflamed area. You can hold them in place with a bra. Let them sit: Leave the leaves on for about 20-30 minutes, or until they no longer feel cool. You can repeat this process a few times a day for symptom relief. While cabbage leaves can help alleviate the discomfort of mastitis, they do not treat the infection itself. If the mastitis persists or worsens, it’s important to consult a doctor for a potential need for antibiotics. I hope you will get better soon!

I was always told that cabbage leaves were used to help us dry up our milk supply when we wanted to be done nursing. 🤷♀️
@charlenevandenheever56382 ай бұрын
Cabbage leaves are the trick, I was told to boil the leave as a whole for 5min and then place it on the infected breast as soon as its cool enough not to burn your skin, it alows the milk to come out and clear up the problem, and it also increased my milkflow afterwards.

I've exclusively breastfed 4 babies, had a clogged duct at least once with all of them. It turned QUICKLY into mastitis once and it was scary how quickly it happened. I felt so weak, had to call my husband home from work because I couldn't even pick up my baby. I had to get antibiotics and it took 3 days to bounce back. I now take clogged ducts very seriously and use a haakaa filled with warm water and epsom salt to get that duct cleared asap. It is magical how quickly it works! Babies often favor a side even with regular chiropractor adjustments, but if Billy hasn't been adjusted lately that may help him to latch and nurse more evenly to prevent a clogged duct. You may not even notice that his nursing is different on one side until that duct is clogged. Prayers and blessings to you all!

Hi Allie, sorry your not feeling well. When I had my first daughter many moons ago I had one episode of mastitis and found my breasts were so hard , painful and baby couldn't latch on to nurse. I called a friend and she told me to go to my kitchen sink, run comfortably warm water and hang my boobs over the sink and use the sink sprayer to run water on my boobs. This felt so good but it also allowed me to manually express milk and I was finally able to nurse and release all the pressure from my engorged breasts. I had a blocked duct and warm compresses helped. Certainly if you are running fever, feel lightheaded or faint and your blood pressure is low, please call and see your OBGYN. You were missed and I hope to see you back on your feet.

Hugs and prayers extra rest and nursing...seeing lots of good advice comments. I am a PT in Texas. Breast fed 2 for 18( a premie) and 12 months and now my daughter in love is nursing. Stay on top of this and take care of you and Billie. You have an amazing support system ❤️ Looking great on the roof...let her rest Trent

I rubbed a good menthol product on the skin over the effected duck and then put heat on it. Water bottle, heating pad, hot shower, . There are also stick on medical strips that promote heat. Feels amazing. Loosens up the duct.

Cold refrigerated savoy cabbage leaves worked a treat for me for mastitis (UK NHS recommended treatment). 19 years on still remember the pain so feel for you Allie. Had a newborn with jaundice to deal with at the same time. Take care. ❤🏴

Yes. Had mastitis infection - swelling, high fever,, etc. Warm compress and outward massage and continued nursing. After cleared and for following babies massaged (outward) after nursing each time to catch any spots that are tight indicating that duct didn't empty (preventative treatment).
