Partially true, but her diagnosis is only partially correct. The assumptions she's making about white identity and masculinity aren't substantiated by the data this time. In fact, compared to 2016, one is the groups Trump lost ground with according to exit polls are white male voters without college education, whereas we know that Trump's support grew with almost every other demographic. So the claims about white male identity doesn't explain the situation. What is true however is that the Democratic Party has not had a story in which white male voters could potentially see themselves and their interests reflected. Since Trump was the only game in town, naturally he won them disproportionally. But when Sanders was running, there was a large number of white men who would have voted Sanders, but not because Sanders was appealing to white identity. So the identity politics line is not determinative.

Excellent interview, I was riveted. Very interesting to hear about plans and stories. I think that's so true, yet one of the many complaints about Harris was "she doesn't have enough policy detail" and "what are her policies?" and "she has no plan." When Trump really did have nothing other than "I'll fix it." Another example of Harris being held to a completely different standard to Trump. And I think Tressie is right: from Trump, for some reason, people were more than happy to hear the story. To hear a reassuring lie. But not from Harris.

They both had no obvious policy plan, so they were competing based on story. "Make America great again" vs "We're not going back." Trump's story was better given that people associated inflation with biden's administration and wanted something better, while Kamala's story can be interpreted as just simply being "anti trump" and only keeping the status quo. Instead of distancing herself from Biden, it seemed like she was offering more of the same.

And instead of abandoning, belittling or excoriating entire 'red states,' how about kindness and compassion for those suffering under that--even of they don't realize it? Remember every state has plenty of non-conservatives too.
@akaimizu1Сағат бұрын
@@closethockeyfan5284 Plenty are compassionate to their issues as well, and are very aware that they are suffering from their elected officials who aren't representing them, but trying to rule them. I understand it is literally impossible for people to control everybody in their state, it's an unfair thing. It's like trying to hold people accountable for any of the a-holes that exist among them. So yeah, the accusations and attempts to roll up everybody into the same bucket goes both ways here. In fact, the ire from either side is fueled by the gross belittling and attacks from either one. But it has gotten to dire attacks of people they group in baskets and attack for which Trump's entire movement is a straight, do harm to others, move. You can't deny that. What one accuses in words, this has been direct assaults with policy, to the point of "well, at least they're hurting" levels. So yeah, some Americans, making choices, they feel will be truly in the best interest of all Americans can feel quite a bit miffed of the hate thrown their way, because certain media bubbles are literally telling those people, that even all those compassionate Americans are really the ones doing the hating. Yet, those, in those media bubbles, will simply choose NOT to believe those Americans when they say they don't hate them. No, only that media bubble (saying they hate) is believed. Even early on, well before Obama, during the early days of Fox News taking off, this was the message I heard directly from Fox News, which kept telling their viewers that people are hating on them. Pointing fingers at people in *gasp* entire 'blue states'. And they believed it. It marked a movement to stoke distrust and a resentment to "other" people. It was all part of the design, and we are living in the result.

Part of the issue for the left is their big tent has many different people with many different issues that matter to them. It's hard to appeal to them all. If the right can just pick 'white men' it's a lot simpler. Just look at Kamala being blamed for not supporting Israeli enough/not embracing Palestine enough. Sadly, being inclusive and diverse means those simple messages become muddled. Suddenly, the candidate is flip-flopping, lacks conviction, is trying trying to appease people... For some reason no matter how hard the media tried to hold Trump accountable for saying whatever he felt would stir the crowd, the voters never actually hold him accountable for changing his story, lying, or pandering. That's his weird superpower.

The same Democratic Party that has overtly and brazenly obstructed the Atlanta referendum process in total defiance of the people's will, to construct a $120M (and counting) mostly tax-funded police militarization center that they razed 300+ acres of conservation area forest to construct. A thing that contributed to this election outcome is that many Americans are isolated from what is happening around the world. There always is inflation whether we like it or not. Prices go up every year and around the world, salaries are growing slower than supermarket prices. There was the impact of Covid along with the impact on supply chains that hugely impacted retail prices and those prices have not come down even though the impact has dissipated. There is a third item that Americans are discounting and that is unrest in Russia/Ukraine and the Middle East. Both of these have resulted in disrupted supply chains. Specifically, the war between Russia and Ukraine has impacted oil prices around the world and one must remember that Ukraine was the grain basket of the world. One cannot discount the impact that these two have had post-Covid. Inflation around the world has been negatively impacted, not only in America.

@@Pecisk It was made for months, literally the entire time Biden withdrawing was posed. Big blocs approached Harris or her campaign in at least half the swing states, begging for even just a more permanent ceasefire, not even an embargo of Israel. They adamantly refused, and her "Excuse me, I'm speaking" line -- as if delivered to kindergartners who were playing too loudly instead of intelligent compassionate engaged constituents protesting *GENO* -- made abundantly clear where she stood and her priorities. The campaign overtly ditched the left to chase CHENEY supporters, for crying out loud! Asinine through and through

Immigration, police and crime, economic issues, even environmental issues--you name it. @akaimizu1Сағат бұрын
@@jasonm1827 If it isn't done with a direct Federal ban, it could be induced by Trump (who would be the only President to do this) for which any help for (guaranteed to come) major natural disasters is CONDITIONAL, on the state reps capitulating to him. Literally using the suffering of people, as a tool, to effectively overwrite the state-level votes of the people. If people want to pipe in and say, "Oh he won't do that!" We've played this game before the last time he was President, when I said he'll do this, and he ended up doing it just like that. If you dare, please leave those kind of denial comments up and I will mark this page and reply "Ding" each time he does it. If people need to be called out on their lack of memory, maybe that's what it'll take for that reality to finally sink in.

I come from a conservative evangelical background though I am now a Democrat. I think very few women in the red states understand that abortion bans in their states mean that doctors may not be willing to save their lives if a miscarriage hasn’t been expelled or (like I am predisposed to) an ectopic pregnancy has occurred. I myself wasn’t aware of these things until I started hearing the stories. I never understood that late term abortions are overwhelmingly for people whose pregnancies were DESIRED but who discover late in the process that their babies will die upon birth, so they must either get a late stage abortion or live in agony for a month or two until I actually researched these things for myself. And while the maternal death rate and infant mortality rates have increased, the media they consume will never share these facts so they remain unaware.

I should add, doctors may not be legally ABLE. Not “willing.” I do not blame doctors for laws they had no say in enacting.
