Flying to the US, skirting diplomatic protocol and claiming to act on behalf of Hong Kong without permission, and finally asking the US to harm his own country, does not really count as "criticism" in my book. Normally the legitimate diplomatic channels wouldn't let it happen, but the US let it happen because it helps them weaken and degrade China. Also, using your front page to call people onto the streets is not "journalism," but that's a separate moral gripe I have with Lai. People in Hong Kong bag on the government every single day for various issues. You should check out how raucous their social media is, as well as how roasty other local news media already are. The British government tried several times to implement a democratic system in Hong Kong, but the CCP threatened to invade if it was implemented.
