How I'd describe Luton is basically an old Northern town but in the South. Huge industry during the war, post war immigration leading to racial tensions, but also some of the best Indian food in the nation. And then just a slow removal of all the industry, leading to a once large and thriving town being incredibly poor, and all the downsides that comes with. Luton is far from nice, but it's my hometown so the rest of you can't complain! I have to live here lol

In regards to the question of how the first cells began. The best explanation I have heard is as follows. Some molecules called phospholipids have properties where one end that attracts water and another end that repels water. These molecules will clump together and naturally arrange themselves into spheres with the hydrophobic end on the inside and the hydrophilic end on the outsides. As we know that both phospholipids and the amino acids that make up RNA can form spontaneously in conditions we believe the primordial Earth experienced, it makes sense that some of these spheres could form in water saturated with amino acids. If enough instances of this occur over a long enough time period, some may have formed the first pseudo-cells. Some biologist believe that these pseudo-cells are forming all the time to this day under the right conditions, however as they are so simple they are immediately consumed or outcompeted by other microorganisms with billions of years of adaptations. Back on the primordial Earth there would have been none of this vast outclassing, as most pseudo-cells would only compete with newly formed or similarly evolved pseudo-cells. Once these cells became established with self replicating their amino acids they could evolve and the rest is history. I’ll link a resource from the US National Library of Medicine’s biotech department that more scientifically explains the chemistry and mechanics involved in the first cells. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK9841/

Not only did I read your comment but as much of the linked doc my feeble brain could manage. That said. This only lends more credence the the astronomically low odds of life existing as we know it... Let alone humans.... Let alone the colloquial 'you and me'... And people want to just throw their hands in the air and go "god did it, jesus take the wheel" and throw away the biggest lottery win in the history of lottery wins. Boggles the biscuits.

A space elevator isn't gonna happen, not on Earth at least. The tensile strength required for that is far beyond anything we can conceive of right now.
@alexlawson4173 Жыл бұрын
I think I actually remember a kurtzgesagt video where they provide info that we do in fact have the materials today to make a space elevator. not like anyone would fund that sort of project nowadays, its probably just not economical.
@dougpowers Жыл бұрын
The materials are within reach. It's the logistics that are a bear. Moving at maglev speeds, it will take days to ascend to GEO. You'll need full hospitality suites and an enormous amount of energy to take cars up that cable. It's be more economical to synthesize zero-carbon fuel and take a methane-powered rocket to where you want to go.
@XMysticHerox Жыл бұрын
@@alexlawson4173 I'd take Kurzgesagt with a grain of salt especially when it comes to optimism in regards to future technology. Though even so I don't believe Kurzgesagt vlaiemd that. In either case no we do not have such materials. The most you can say is that there are promising theoretical materials that may allow for one if we figure out how to produce them at scale. Though there are space infrastructure proposals much more sensible like skyhooks doable with current technology.

Blackpool has about the same amount of drugs as most places in the north from my experience, not the best place, but not the worst. I think Lewis should pop down for a members video, or a Triforce on the road, see the illuminations, go on the big one, win some drugs in the coral island 2p machines, whats not to love

Reason why sips would fall asleep at the thought of the first cell forming is because he would get stuck at the “evolving from nothing” part… He would get really into the mindset of being nothing and would just fall asleep 😅@ 50:45
