Trini Kachourie/katchorie/Cachorie Recipe - this is a super crunchy chickpea snack that is served with my blended mango chutney, delish! It is quite similar to saheena or a falafel and in my opinion I think it's way better.
This would make a great veggie burger.
This makes 30 small.
1 lb channa soaked overnight
2-3 scallions chopped
20 grains of garlic
2 cups bandanya / cilantro / shadon beni
1 onion chopped
2-3 hot peppers chopped
3 tsp yeast
1 cup flour
½ tsp turmeric
4 tsp baking powder
Oil for frying
1/4 tsp black pepper
1 tbsp salt I used, please put according to your taste.

i love love love this soo much. i prefer it to the floured ones i also add some split peas soak and grounded just like the chick peas. you can make saheena out of it its wat i do when i make just add bhagi to some of your mixture. thanks for sharing not many ppl make these anymore. have a great weekend

This is criminal. First time I've seen it made. Love this, but don't eat it bcus I don't get it fesh, made on spot. The only way to really savour this, is to get it straight out of the fire. I can now do it for myself - and the saheena. Thanks so much.

Very nice.I compliment you However ,cilantro is another earthy herb similar to "shado beni" with finer leaves.Shado beni is called .......culantro.

Hi question when soaking the channa...do you add baking powder or baking soda to it....or plain water

Natasha you work hard girl! I can't keep up. Where do you find the time? This recipe reminds me of the falafel recipe I use except I don't use BP or yeast. I bind with a couple slices bread or Panko. I also add and soak half as much yellow split peas as channa. I use parsley/cilantro. Thanks for sharing your talents and we wish you and your family health and prosperity in 2017.

great recipe! i noticed you add yeast in most of your recipes (we don't in my family). what does the yeast provide to the kachourie? tks!

it keeps it soft inside if you don't want to use the yeast use 1tsp baking powder extra.

Is s channa boiled after beung soaked becuase you said we can use the ones in tins and dat one is boiled

No its not boiled. It's raw channa.

This katchorie is the perfect cross between a saheena and a falafel (better than a falafel). The flavors of the seasoning and chickpeas go so well together. Super tasty!
