I actually prefer camping in the cold or snow. No snakes to accidentally run into and no mosquitoes trying to get me to donate a pint of blood! Its just harder because you have to be extremely prepared and ready just in case you get stuck there for a couple of days. Its not like the summer when you just toss everything in the pickup and go and learn you forgot something important later! There can be no second guessing.

I notice the 2020 version of the Blackfin you can take all 3 of the fins off. Bad thing is they did away with the US finbox style and moved to a snap in style. I hope i can still get a 2019 model Blackfin. Have a 2018 11' Atoll i really like but think i will hand it down to my son once i get a Balckfin maybe. This is what it's like on all the creeks in my area , i'd say about 4 to 5 log jams a mile. Catfish love log jams Outstanding trip!
@TripSmith
@TripSmith 4 жыл бұрын
Yea log jambs make it interesting! I hadn't noticed that about the clip on fins until now. Interesting.... I need to get my hands on one and give it a good once over. There are several changes to the board that I would like to take a closer look at. Something inside me tells me that they wouldn't have gone to the snap in style unless it were a good design. There are multiple types of snap in fins/boxes. Going to be tough to get a 2019 model, they are almost all sold out of them.

The sea to summit eVent bags are also pretty stellar. Same concept as the OR bag you have. Finally LokSak makes great bags as well. Just my 2cents. Love the videos man. 👌 Also, sometimes you still need to double bag some stuff because it’s actually condensation building up inside the bag.

QUESTION: After crossing the 30th downed tree, what would you have to say about your day so far? (Try to be honest ;)

You definitely put that inflatable board thru the test. I don’t think I would have done it....but good exercise. I hope you carry a emergency radio...that could be dangerous if you slip and get hurt...be safe bud! But you are a firefighter so you must have good spidey senses!

I did a trip almost like this not too long ago. It was on an unused river and we fought logs all the way down. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eaScomuboKh3iZI

I would kill or die to take you down a stretch I did in NW FL. 1.8 miles, 20+ hours, most brutal kayaking ever. Never thought of taking a SUP. You're changing my religion here.

at least all you have to haul is that paddleboard,better than dragging a canoe or kayak over those trees.Stay safe.

The most memorable events in our life are the most challenging. Great video. That SUP performed admirably. How do you rate it compared to the Red Paddle? Great to see u with your son. Bet u can’t wait to take him with you.
@TripSmith
@TripSmith 5 жыл бұрын
Very well said! Compared to Red Paddle? Just as tough. But it's not as light and doesn't have a few features that can make the Red faster like the stiffening battens. But for the money, it cant be beat. Oh yea, can't wait!

Trip that SUP looks very stable bit I believe they need to come out with a telescopic retractable fin/rudder for them. Man that looked like a lot of work. I think the adventure in this was the adventure itself for sure you earned every mile of this one buddy.
@TripSmith
@TripSmith 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Scott, yes it was a lot of work lol. That would be cool for a retractable fin. I'm thinking in the next several years someone will have one ;) Just hope I get to try it out!
