Thank you that's my vacuum, watched to see how to get the rubber band onto the power head beater bar and motor more easily. Did it years ago, forgot. Yes band just just rolls on. Thank you.

That’s cool you do all that extra stuff for a customer who doesn’t want to pay for any of it. It amazes me though people buy such a pricey machine and don’t want to maintain it...

I just found this model but with white paint. Missing cord and pig tail going to power nozzle so I’ll have to replace both

those Tristar's are built to last a lifetime. I recommend the hepa motor filters.

That old Tristar will be giving its owner good service long after any new Miele he sells is dead and buried in a landfill.

I have this vaccumm. I love it. It gets all the dog hair out of my carpet like no other ever has since my Eureka Victory that died sucking up a screwdriver that was under the couch. The Tristar performs better then my shop vac. I haven't used the new plastic Tristar models, these old metal ones are the best I've ever used..... using mostly my German Shep mix dog as the source of testing materials.

Tristars are still made from the same aluminum-magnesium alloy as these are. The only plastic are some trim.

Ive had my tristar since the 70's, i brought it outside to clean on the porch, it got damp and of course Its old, first the motor went so i got another canister, then i couldn't get the hose out to put on the new one..my friend said hed look at it, the only way he could get the hose apart was to cut the metal part off just beyond where it rusted together, I hove the hose but of course it doesnt stay in there, i saw on ebay they had a replacement part i believe is the part i need but for the life of me i cant figure out how to remove it by the pigtail to change it, maybe you have a video on that or an idea how to fix it..

is the enviocare vacuum bags a good choice instead of genuine tristar bags. I found one in a filter queen box at a yard sale.

Only if its the 2 layer bag .

Tristars require airflow and most aftermarket bags do not flow enough air for the vacuum to work properly. Reduced airflow leads to motors overheating and reduced motor life. Chose bags and filters for these wisely.

So I woud Assume the vents closed would be not as good as open for more air flow but you said something about Mechanics taping them closed. So could you elaborate about the scenarios and best results for the vents!! Tanks for the video

We have this exact unit, and the "turbo head" needs to be replaced (it's banged up and doesn't pickup as well). Recommendations for a new head??

I have one of these (similar model, around the same time, made in early 80's)! I used it my entire childhood, and my parents bought a new vacuum cleaner when I went to college, so I brought the TriStar with me to grad school. It's... an interesting experience owning one. It's definitely a hassle to store. I conveniently found a certified TriStar repair shop about 40 minutes from where I live; looked them up when my last belt broke. Now I feel bad about being one of those "cheap" customers... I had them replace the parts that they deemed necessary, but if it was optional or there was a work-around, I opted for not replacing it. Like, as a customer, I don't see what was wrong with the hose in this video. You said it was "beat up" - does that interfere with its functionality at all? In my case, the main cord was starting to show some wear. I opted for wrapping it with electrical tape rather than replacing it. I ended up paying ~$220 for parts/service a couple years ago. Now I'm starting to have some problems with it again, and I don't think it would pass that "debris test" at the end of the video. I'm getting to the point of debating whether to sell mine and buy something more modern, or face taking it in for repair every couple of years. I don't recall my parents ever taking it in for service.

The German made canisters tend to be more cost-effective to buy new then to fix an old TriStar but with that sentimental history it might be worth fixing
@joecascia97142 жыл бұрын
There's nothing on this vac that isn't easy to repair yourself. Learn to fix it and it will last forever (or until parts are no longer available). New ones are great for the first year or so, then they are disposable. Why throw these plastic machines in the dump constantly when this will last forever. Parts are cheap if you buy them and install them yourself.

Do this video is the same service for a Tristar DXL vacuum cleaner?
@philsalvatore39025 жыл бұрын
CXL and DXL canisters are the same. The exception is the two speed version of the CXL which has a special switch and a four wire Ametek motor. They wire up mostly the same as the old two speed Sears Best canisters from the 1970s (Tristars don't have the bag full light the old Kennys had). I'm sure the fellow who makes these videos would be appalled, lol.
I would not recommend a tri star vacuum. I paid big bucks for mine and I have started to hate the days I need to vacuum. It's awkward and difficult to store. Anyone want mine I will sell it cheap just to get rid of it. I have another vacuum coming today and can't wait to enjoy cleaning again.
@PerformanceReviews6 жыл бұрын
Hopefully the new vacuum you ordered is the solution. I agree with you this old style of canister are incredibly awkward to work with especially compared to the new style modern canisters such as sebo and Miele offer

@@PerformanceReviews I love mine. I have two, as they can be purchased so inexpensively these days. So powerful. I remove the hose and hang it and store the vacuum in the hall closet. It takes all of 5 seconds to reconnect. Very well made machines that last.
