Triumph speed 400 rear wheel locked on downshift

Always downshift before you enter a corner brother ! I could see that you shifted down as you were tipping into the corner. Even if the bike has a slipper clutch, while you’re cornering the bike maintains a level of traction, but if you shift while cornering, the traction and contact patch of the tyre alters even if you rev match and the bike has a slipper clutch. It would offset the bike’s geometry through the corner. So always finish shifting before you enter a corner and trail brake throughout the corner. You’ll have more fun on your bike. I myself ride a 300, and I rode by friend’s speed 400, it’s a great bike. Enjoy your ride, safe riding.

So I got this bike recently.. and I’ve been riding RE for good 15 years… this bike has a different characteristic than most .. whenever you are downshifting the engine breaking is extreme.. learn to revmatch before downshifting .. it’s a must have skill in twisting mountains anyways.. I had to double up on revmatching on this compared to my previous bike.. all good now..

Looked to me like the bike went into limp mode, usually caused by fuel problems or pressure washing the instrument cluster, but that being said if the rear wheel had locked up you would have wound up on the asphalt, not pulling off to the side.

Don't worry it is traction control which is working perfectly fine just keep riding your bike properly. I think sometimes it works in a awkward situation.

Disadvantages of getting bikes with 2 much rider assits i guess, I own a 250 and i downshift and have never faced this issue. Thanks to your Traction control I guess

It does. But not sure why it got locked. May be not enough traction. That’s the only time I faced it.

I heard tires screech and that would trigger traction control. Good learning for me, i would not have imagined this situation otherwise, as i never have ridden a bike with TC. You are lucky, there was no otger vehicle in front/back, otherwise this could be fatal.

If you want to down shift, better to do it before entering corner. By chance if you are doing it while taking corner , better to do it in lower rpm with a rev match. If you down shift in high rpm ..Make rev match according to the rpm..Otherwise wheel will lock.

the BIG downward for me is the instrument are so f*up , the big analog should be tacho and speedo should be digital one instead of both are currently switch places.

Looks like traction control did not work. People in this comment section don't seem to understand how a slipper clutch and traction control works. Rear tyre never slips on a modern bike, even if you downshift from 6 to 1 in a corner. Even in rain.

@@abbassayyad31 Hello, you mentioned family, I believe then most of the time it will be with a pillion. If your priority is about comfort, easy handling, and cruise then it's the Hness 350. Meanwhile, if your priority is on acceleration, dynamics, and handling then it's scram. This doesn't mean that scram is not comfortable. It is comfortable but comparing both Hness would be more comfortable.

@@clintsride They sound almost similar. That's the only similarity. I felt Dominar is great on highway cruise on good speed. They are top heavy. So while on ghat roads I felt it's a bit of effort on sharp and high corners. Meanwhile, speed 400 felt more nimble and effortless. Also they are not top heavy. And speed 400 is well refined from 0 to 110 kmph.
