I like how trivium switches it up each record, but at the same time I'm not big on vengeance falls, silence in the snow, or even crusade all that much. My favorite records are the ones that mix the heavy with the melodicism. Ember, ascendancy, and in waves are good examples, but shogun is the album that really hits the nail on the head to me. I bought shogun the day it came out, and it's been my favorite trivium album ever since.

Dad solos, that's so accurate. Matts solos sound like the solos of a 40 year old blues player. That's not a knock on him lol. Dude can play but yeah his solos are very minimalistic, at least compared to Coreys. He's very melodic though and can shred if he wants to.
