12 string electrics are my absolute favorites...I can even shred on them. This guitar is so bleepin' cool...but would it have killed them to put on 22 frets and a cutaway for the truss-rod?
@mellissadalby1402Ай бұрын
I couldn't find one to buy, so I made my own 12-string Telecaster. I have a figured solid wood pickguard and Seymour Duncan noiseless pickups. The body is a Cherry Sunburst quilted maple top on Alder back, with a Warmoth neck. Getting a proper bridge to match the predilled holes in the body required some improvisation, but it works great. It is a string-thru and top-load similar to that one but without the ashtray wall around it (that always bruised my knuckles any way). The inside of the cavities is coated in conductive pait, with Aluminum tape on the back of the pickguard, for maximum shielding to reduce any noise (I hate the AC buzz). I used 500k pots to preserve more high-end tone. Ha! I have mine in a Wrangler Demin case too, but mine is black denim. I guess I should pull mine out and play it some now.

Between August 1996 and the date when this video was uploaded in September 2024, I've owned four different 12-string acoustic guitars, three of which came as acoustic electric instruments. What type of guitar that I've always been interested to get but never went through with getting is a 12-string electric guitar. I've always wanted to have the sound, but the different pros and cons of how each manufacturer built them did a lot to discourage me going through with it. One thing I was amazed to discover when I purchased my second model was it how one unlikely Moody Blues song to translate well on to a 12-string guitar is "Your Wildest Dreams".

Don't know if the set-up was still compromised, but it sounded off-key in the lower registers Austin...🤔

The factory could easily clean the fretboard, and after polishing, use two additional buffing wheels. One dampened with a cleaning solution and a dry cleaning one to get the last of the residue off it. The factory would probably have to change out those two buffing wheels every 0.5 hours or so, but after a good washing, they will be good as new.

It sounds very good to me when switched to only the neck pick-up! 😍👍 Remember, Austin: The Tone control is an essential tool on a Tele to help tame tones that are too bitey! 😉 And while I love Teles in general, I think I'd have trouble with this neck's regular width myself, as a 12-string. Still a cool guitar, though! 😀 Great sound/playing demo too, mate! 🤩👍

The Reverend 12 string takes the cake. 12 locking tuners on a chambered out body. Neck dive like crazy. 🔻 The Jazzmaster 12 works because the extra wood in the body better counter-balances all the tuners.
@craigthomson36212 ай бұрын
I have a lefty Reverend Airwave 12 string but it has very little neck dive. The upper horn (with the strap button) is more pronounced so when you play standing up the guitar is well balanced. Similar 6 string through and 6 top wrap stringing arrangement means each string can be individually intonated.

@HaroldDickertАй бұрын
Acoustic 12-string guitars have necks that are quite a bit wider then the corresponding 6-string versions. In the world of electric guitars, they just seem to crowd the strings making it harder to do anything but strum. It would be nice to find electric 12-strings with the same string spacing as acoustics. So.... whats the string spacing at the bridge on this guitar?
@fernandoviana6620Ай бұрын
Beautiful sound.
@Ten2More2 ай бұрын
The Squier Paranormal JM xii’s pickups handle the wider range of a 12 better, the truss rod is more accessible, and the larger JM body handles the tension of 12 strings better. Acoustic 12s notoriously separate from bridges over time due to increased tension. Really nailed the design in that Squier JM 12. IMHO. Depends on what you want.

I wish they would have included a better tailpiece for better intonation, and the way the strings rest and pull on the headstock seems strange. Fender always used their "hockey stick" head design. A specially reinforced neck may help with the intonation and overall "tunage" too.
