Love you trogly but, just my two cents, I don't think it's drama that people are vexed by this signature. I think It feels like Gibson is trying to push a Gibson collectable and not a Kirk Hammett collectable. I think that if I was a big enough KH fan and wanted to buy a replica of one of his guitars, I would want it to be exactly the way that it is in the videos and pictures that made me love it. I would feel ripped off if I shelled out 8k to get a guitar that has the wrong pickups and the wrong logo. Imo Gibson really needs to reevaluate their current priorities.

IMO, a signature guitar is different than a tribute to a specific iconic guitar from an artist's past. If Kirk ordered one of these today perhaps he wouldn't get one with EMG's but if Gibson is going to label this as a Hammett "1989" signature then it should be authentic to that guitar. Why bother aging it if they're going to ignore other characteristics? Personally, I'm not a Hammett or EMG fan... far from it, but I'd be disappointed if I were. And then there's the price... basically upwards of $10k after tax for what, exactly?

Salutations Austin! Nice Signature Les Paul Custom, I would rather it not have the Murphy Lab treatment, just brand new condition would be my preference, however, I do like the addition of the Fishman bridge with the built in pickup, but I might have been wired differently, such as a stereo Les Paul is, except with the piezoelectric pickup on it’s own separate output. In the case, it might be a good idea to use a magnetic latch to keep the storage compartment secure, so the contents don’t fall out all over the interior of the case, and potentially scratching the guitar. The pickups could easily be swapped out for those who want a different sound option. I think Gibson should offer a more affordable version of this guitar, without the Murphy Lab treatment, for working musicians, and also an Epiphone version for those on a smaller budget too. It sounds pretty good, as is, and I would not be surprised if a lot of musicians would like a Les Paul Custom such as one of these. Thanks for sharing this with us all! Lets be honest, they put it together with whatever parts they had at their factory, and priced it like they traveled back in time and brought back the original before it was handed to Kirk.

That pin in the case candy looks like Otto from the Simpsons.. not Kirk..

Would have been cool with at least some black pickup covers to make them look like EMGs.
@SirBGEJ10 ай бұрын
I think they could use plastic black covered pickups like the LPJ so the look would have been more accurate.

There’s no reason to put expensive t-type pickups in it when they could have just had the $200 or so emg pickups he actually uses

It's one thing asking silly money for a really old guitar, that's like 'fair enough, I get it' but you can get a used LPC from the late 80's for a couple of Grand. Crazy that you'd devalue your guitar by sticking a Piezo in it yourself but when Gibson do it the opposite is true lol

No EMG’s. Wrong bridge. Crazy price. No thx.

@3:20 I think this is the biggest sticking point for me - Wino and this Kirk Custom are both "reissues" of guitars where actual original models are half the price. Surely anyone who wants the real thing will go and buy the real thing, so this just feels like a fairly transparent way to get money out of collectors who Gibson know will buy everything they release.

i might get the epiphone one eventually, throw the emg bonebreakers in it

To me a guitar should be made to be played not to sit in its case or look but don’t touch display! IMHO

If Gibson has aged these pickups like other makers of vintage type PAF pickups, they have probably degaused the magnets from the full magnetic strength to a weaker strength, to achieve the weakened magnets that actual PAF's have from age. That's what some pickup builders believe gives vintage pickups their magic.

So I just noticed in the B roll footage, that the $50K Greeny's frets are between the binding. Anyone know if the real Greeny still has its original frets, or if someone extremely skilled has refretted it? I couldn't imagine a guitar that's been played as much as that one still having the frets it left the factory with.
@Trog10 ай бұрын
Greeny (original) was refretted shortly before the official launch of the 50k version

Way overpriced for what it is. I cant see paying that much extra for fake mojo. Not a fan of the pickups either.
