It depend how you look at it, really. At normal mode SA is really challenging, if you're going for a Lunatic 1CC UFO is considered the worst, but if we judge solely on pattern difficulty, LoLK takes the cake. So yeah, SA CAN be the most difficult.

The ransomware is indeed for real. I thought the encryption deal was just bogus and maybe the users who got it were fools, given that they got this piece of software in the first place. Anyways, Touhou is really not a game for everyone, but for those who suddenly got interested in playing this and don't have the skill to do, here's some stuff I found by experience which hopefully can get you somewhere in Touhou. *Focus. Hold shift to make your character move slower and show your 'hitbox'. Under any circumstances, you don't want any bullet to touch the hitbox. It's a thing I noticed Dan and two other KZbin channels miss out. For anyone playing Touhou, FOCUSING is a must, and to play without FOCUSING is suicide (unless you want to do a no-Focus challenge, which is infeasible if you're already reading this). *Your character choice will be crucial in the beginning. Typically, you'll want to play as Reimu (the one in red-white, always the first choice), and in some cases, you might be given a second choice: that's your loadout, typically the first one is the one you want to go with. Reimu has moderate speed and amulets that home to your targets, definitely easier for beginners. *I recommend starting with Perfect Cherry Blossom on Normal. The later games get harder (including Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom and Subterranean Animism, avoid these until you're ready for them, same for UFO here). If you're unable to progress on Normal, Easy is an option that you could take. Definitely do not start on Lunatic or Hard until you're familiar with the games first. *You have bombs that can be used by hitting the X button. They can be used at any time as long as you have at least one of them, but it's best to keep them until you're almost going to be hit by a bullet, as its main functionality is not to damage the enemies (that's a side effect), but rather to clear away the bullets and grant you invincibility. As such, you want to keep them for the times when you most need them. *When playing, always look at your character first to make sure their hitbox is not dangerously close to a bullet. When the screen is full of bullet hell, don't even look up; instead keep looking at your character and keep her moving away from bullets. *Bullets are smaller than what they appear. So if you are surrounded by bullets, there may be hope for escape by taking advantage of the bullets' actual size. An example is the orbs, where the white space all around the colored part is mostly safe. *Don't aim towards beating the games, instead, play to see how far you could go. Under this mentality, you can keep pushing your limits. Practice the stages you have unlocked, and keep playing till you gain enough experience to see the final boss. And most importantly, be patient. Patience will be great when trying to beat Touhou, as you definitely don't want to be rushed when playing Touhou. That is all the tips I have for a beginner. There are some advanced tips out there that you could use like the point of collection, but you should first focus on the basics and getting your feet wet before you fully dive.

There's no way anyone has a Pentium 2 anymore to be unable to escape of that ransomware. Really. (I know because GTA:San Andreas requires at least a Pentium 3 1GHz, 256MB RAM and a 64MB GPU (Geforce 3 onwards) which isn't even actual tech anymore.
