Can we just appreciate Tronics Fix showing us his mistakes. Some channels would have just scrapped the video or tried to cover up the mistake so it's not noticeable.

How people destroy the hdmi ports on their consoles is beyond me
@billythefxck
@billythefxck Жыл бұрын
I actually think it has to do with the newer HDMI technology getting too hot. They appear to get hot enough to melt the plastic that holds the pins. Not a coincidence that we are seeing 100x the amount of broken ports as the predecessors
@giggity4670
@giggity4670 Жыл бұрын
@@billythefxck No i think it is just people not taking care and forcing the HDMI in or pulling it out with some force as the housing was bent and you see some scratch marks on the plastic next to the port so blind plugging it is never good if upside down and you force it in will brake the pins and bend the metal housing that is what it looks like with this one.

What I usually do with the labels that have screws underneath is I get an exacto knife And I cut on three sides around where the screw would be And then you peel it up and it's still attached through one side so it becomes like a little flap. And when you're done you can Stick it back down and it actually looks pretty good.

Recently (mostly thanks to you), I have had the courage to try my hand at some simple repairs on consoles we have had lying around. I think I want to work my way towards maybe doing it as a side hustle one day. A few days ago, I tried my first ever soldering project which was changing the batteries in my Pokemon Silver and Crystal that I have had laying around for years that were not holding saves. Series X/S console HDMI ports are the most annoying in my opinion. The best way I’ve found to do them is to heat the board up to around 300c on a pre heater! That said, they never “just break” like the PS5’s as the board is so thick 😊 great video Steve!

Use an iron to tin the whole thing with leaded solder first, to lower melt temp. Once you have removed the port, tin the area with leaded solder and wick everything back up. Re-tin the area with leaded solder. Position the board with the port up and heat from underneath with no nozzle. Once you see the solder melt, install the port and give it a second or two for the port pins to come up to temp, remove heat and hold till it freezes. You will never damage ports or traces that way. JMHO Thank you for all you share!!

That kind of build up of dust tends to happen when you are in a place with thick carpet and there is a lot of people where the oils from our bodies and breath build up quickly on fans. Great job on this fix. Maybe in terms of using compressed air, you could get a small air fume dome or make a makeshift one with a big box, a clear acrylic panel (so you can film), and a vacuum cleaner. Would allow you to speed up some projects like this.

A significant % of the dust in a house is microscopic pieces of skin we shed. If you have dogs / cats / birds, they make alot of dust too. Pull a paper tissue from the box in the Sunlight : you'll see lots of paper dust. An air purifier will remove alot of dust, but quality filters need replacing 2 to 4 times a year so the price can be a problem. MERV-13 filters do a fine job. ( You don't need "HEPA certified" whatever. )

A big deal of these sticker can be removed without damaging them by submerging them in ipa and carefully lifting them (there is enough adhesive left, but you can always add some - even in your "merry land" you should be able to buy smth like Pritts glue tape that has really thin glue tape in it). It works wonders on all those "safety" stickers that will leave a shiny parts behind...

I don't know if you use but there is a hand pump that sucks up the melted solder and with that you melt and suck up each pin and then melt the actual HDMI data pins. I saw this procedure many times when I worked in the IT Service department. I hope this message helps you. By melting one pin at a time, the risk of damaging those connectors is minimal. Luck!

Bud.. Its a room your working in wright ?.. If you have a spot for ventalation, why not just have a vacuum an a filter.. (I use to work in a clean room), I had a tiny room that I had to do mother board testing in an we had to remove an reinstall parts.. Anyways, we had wet VAC's.. that our boss had installed outside the rooms, with a hose that he attached to the wall, it might help you, making chores a bit faster, sucking up the dust an stuff faster and your not breathing anything into your lungs while your at your work station 😁👍 happy new years and congrats fixing the sweet xbox limited Ed.. System in one shot lol
