I've been reading "I'm clean and sober" comments for 8 years of active addiction. I never thought I would be the one commenting in a million years because I was a hopeless dope fiend. I'm here today thankful and blessed for my 20 days clean and serene. May not seem like alot but its 20 little miracles that will change my life. Don't be afraid take that first step and get control of your life again.

I didn't get clean to take control of my life again. I got clean to surrender, let go and let God. My best thinking got me fucked up. Like the third step prayer says "(God) take my will and my life, guide me in my recovery, and show me how to live." I hope in this time of isolation you still have a support group. I hope you can work the steps in the order they are in and have the guidance of a sponsor. The first thing I did was admit that I was powerless over my addiction and my life had become unmanagable. Turned out it never again was managable under my will. It is completely managable with my Higher Power (God, of my understanding) guiding me though. I pray for peace for you my friend.

I am a alcoholic and I have done a lot of drugs. Last year I had had enough my family left me I had just gotten out of jail. I was broken spiritual emotional and financial. I had not seen my new granddaughter. Two weeks after I started going back to meeting I had to have surgery. I had gangrene in my gallbladder and pancreas. I almost died twice in the hospital. But I kept on the desperation to live finally sunk in after 47 years. Today and onmy today by the grace of a loving God am I still here. My wife has came back. Even though she doesn't trust me very well. Lol wonder why. My granddaughter calls me papa and gets so excited to see me. I am so truly blessed in so many ways. I still have legal problems as part of my past but I am ok if I can get through today. Tomorrow will be 365 days since I have had a drink or drug. And for that I am grateful.

Nicole Williams your words are repulsive to way over half the newcomers that need recovery so lay off the God talk! It’s a spiritual and NOT RELIGIOUS program. ONE ADDICT HELPING ANOTHER. IF your beliefs in god help you help the newcomer then so be it and power to you, but anything that isn’t your experience should be left out of the equation. The word God can seriously drive an addict who needs help out of the rooms. I was desperate and alone and had absolutely no options so I had to learn to practice tolerance and acceptance to those people who still choose to put their faith and personal accountability in a god or something that isn’t themselves.

@Malroin8 жыл бұрын
My advice (even if we shouldn't give it) is that you grab a sponsor and do the steps. I am only six months clean but did the steps the AA way, although my sponsor was both NA and AA and I just added 'and drugs' whenever the AA programme mentioned alcohol. What I mean to say is that no matter how you go about it. find the way that works for you but be fearless and thorough: it will change your life. Take care and keep coming back!
@tanyabolton14578 жыл бұрын
Thank You I can't believe how far I've come in just a little time. I have an awesome sponsor now. I am starting step 3 and not quite so lonely yeah I still struggle won't deny that. But I'm finding my place. I love being a student and having the direction of many that are working their recovery. I watched two people take 15 and 18 years last nite. They had a show of hands for a year or more clean they all went up in a packed room now that's humbling to sit in. I feel blessed today. Thank You for your wise words your on point. Good Luck to you as well. Life changing stuff happens around the right company..

I have become mother, grandma and father to my granddaughter who lives with me as well. I am struggling, I am scared, I don't trust him. I'm also currently in remission from colon cancer. I was at this event. The "Dinosaur Jam". Some of us who were all members of an internet group got together for an awesome day of food fun and fellowship. Troy/Anchovy is still a good friend and I get good things for my own recovery from him all the time. Thanks for sharing this.
