would like learn truck dispatching, currently a Wrecker Dispatcher. Can you give some advice on this. Would like to work from home.

Hi Kala Tupou - I never worked as a dispatcher, but my understanding is that dispatchers are in demand. My first suggestion would be to call a trucking company and see if you can do an informational interview. Talk to the dispatcher there and see if they would give you 15 or 20 minutes to talk about his/her job. People, I have found, are always willing to help you out finding a job and point you in the right direction. I suspect if you look around, you should be able to find something that allows you to work from home. I had a friend some years ago that worked for a personnel agency--they had truck drivers on payroll that filled in at trucking companies--she worked from home and dispatched drivers when a company needed one - often she worked at night and on weekend because this was often when companies needed drivers, or drivers called in sick. My advice is to talk to dispatchers at big and small companies - I suspect you'll get some different information about the role of a dispatcher. All the best, Cheers Rick
