@@wc4584 I'm not in the industry at all, just learning, and I can already see that brokers and dispatchers aren't going anywhere. If I had a large company and I needed to move a large amount of freight, say enough for 10 trucks, why would I find one independent driver per load when I could pay one company that has access to a fleet? Being an owner operator in my opinion is no different than being self-employed. You'll still cap out on how much you can earn according to how much you can move and how much time you have to move it. As a broker/dispatcher the possibility of higher profit margins are greater. It's always gonna suck on a worker level. I'm personally trying to escape physical labor, so I'd rather be a broker/dispatcher, but a fair and honest one. I'm currently doing $180K-$200K as an industrial electrician but thats from putting in a lot of OT. Now, if i can do that from a phone and a computer sign me up lol.

Greetings Alix, I enjoy your content and keep up the great work. I do have a question regarding dispatching. I recently watched a video by Dennis Brown explaining the difference between Freight Brokers, Freight Agents and Dispatch Services According to him he says dispatching has been considered illegal by FMCSA. He says the agency considers it as unauthorized brokering,. I did go on to FMCSA website and I didn't see anything about what he was saying. However, what I did come across were several articles detailing the dispute Freight Brokers have with Freight Dispatchers and how the Brokers asked Congress to make a ruling regarding "illegal" dispatching. How does your dispatching program address this issue?. Thanks.
@RulenExpediting

A dispatcher is a freight agent for the motor carrier. The dispatcher has a contract with the motor carrier to dispatch there trucks. The dispatcher doesn’t get paid from the broker or shipper there settlement come from the carrier. I hope that helps

@@RulenExpediting great explanation! For example, my husband is an owner operator and I dispatch him. I'm sure there are dispatch services that are doing things illegally but to dispatch in itself is not illegal. My husband's family started this trucking company 20 years ago and most of those years they had a dispatch service they used that unfortunately lacked transparency. I guess at the end of the day regardless of the job, anyone can do illegal activities. I had thought about becoming a broker but there is just too much liability for my taste.

Does it have to do with conflict of interest? Like competition between carriers bc by then if I was an independent dispatcher with company A and company B and I have a job to give. Yes a broker has to have a $75k surety bond. The amount you pay for your bond is based on personal credit and years in the business. The better your credit the less you pay, shopping around helps too. The bonds are all the same (so no need to overpay) but you want to make sure the bond is from a reputable company :)

100% correct. It all falls under preference. Some drivers are cool with doing the work and some just want to drive. However if you’re starting from scratch and have no relationships with shippers or brokers it can be a slow start. A dispatcher/broker will already have those relationships present and can get you on the road. And more importantly keep you on the road.

Think of the broker as a virtual or ghost carrier, they promise the shipper that they can move a load at a certain price then they gotta go out and find drivers ANY drivers/carriers to move that load. A dispatcher is like the driver’s or carrier’s agent or manager. They manage the drivers schedules, find them loads and negotiates the best price with the broker or shipper. Broker gets paid by the shipper, dispatcher gets paid by the carrier/driver

You need to take this video down or add a correction because its now illegal for a dispatcher to be communicating directly with shippers on behalf of the carriers per FMCSA November 2022 rules. Also, dispatchers with more than one client are now considered broker agents...and need to get a broker's authority...don't think they won't be fining people that $10,000 sooner or later. @@ashleywhite3515I agree with courses being too much money but that doesn't answer my question. Why say everything is online if I want to learn and then complain about online courses not being free in the same breath? What choice do I have? Waste time scowering the internet trying to learn or save time learning things the right way?
