One mechanic showed me that my torque rods need to be replaced ( he estimated $800+labour). I said thank you so much for your advise ☺️ I got them from Turkey for $120 each shipping included, took me half an hour-hour😁 $240 and an hour of my time vs close to $1k is a big difference.

If you have a jack that can grab both sides of the frame from the rear and jack up on it (I know it’s not ideal to pick up on the frame and stretch the air bags ) BUT, when you do that when the nuts are loose the torque arm will legit slide right down the bolts and you can nearly 90% of the time just pull the passenger side off that way and the driver just comes off with a pry bar after the bolts are loosened

A drop or two of engine oil on the bolt threads should also do, aside from cleaning the bolt threads if they are dirty. I like using a small oil can with a flexible spout that I bought from Harbor Freight. It makes it easy to apply oil to bolt threads, especially on wheel studs.

I replaced the nuts and bolts on my truck everytime I replace anything.
@thereviewer41734 жыл бұрын
If you torque the nuts and bolts to the correct torque spec, they can be reused. Overtorquing can damage the threads of the bolt or nut or make them break next time you remove them. You also want to always lubricate bolt threads with 1 or 2 drops of engine oil before installing them. If the bolt threads are rusted or dirty, you can clean them with a set of “tap and die” and cutting oil. Then there are several tips out there to prevent nuts and bolts from breaking while removing them. Applying heat and turning the nut slowly back and forth until the threads move smoothly are two of my favorite methods. 136 ft lbs for torque rods on the Freightliner Cascadia.
@joen50914 жыл бұрын
should measure the new one to make sure it matches the length of the old one
@thereviewer41734 жыл бұрын
Also check the length of both torque rods at the dealer parts. I once was given two different torque rods that looked the same, but were off by half an inch.

The correct terminology for this type of set up, is originally called a Panhard rod. But it might soon be forgotten. It’s the cheap version of the Watt link. The watt link keeps the axle completely centered.

@Castlewoodvideo4 жыл бұрын
60 to 120 bucks per hour of shop time, and they will make sure to use at least an hour!

Yeah, some shops have minimum charges of half an hour or an hour. Torque rods and shocks are definitely some easy fixes that an owner operator can handle.
