Pangolins are the most illegally trafficked animal in the world. This is a very prevalent issue but most people don’t even know of such a creature. They are hunted for the obvious appeal of collecting their scales to make trinkets and accessories or clothing items; but they are also considered a delicacy amongst parts of China and Vietnam and are a symbol of wealth to be consumed because of their valuable meat. The natural defense mechanism to curl in a ball may shield it from a slew of larger animals of prey, but leaves them helpless when humans come along just to scoop up the balled up innocent creature to poach.
