When I was eight, I realized for the first time I wasn't going to live forever and that life is just another terminal illness. No matter how perfect or imperfect one lives, it will all be the same in the end. This realization filled me with deep sorrow and hit me with a depression from which I still haven't truly recovered from. I would even say a part of that exuberant kid died that day. What's worse than the pain and suffering from the slings and arrows of the world, is the inability to feel them. The numbness that grows over time when you realize nothing has any meaning. Even though I pushed that thought away and tried suppressing it so I can live like a normal human being, I always end up questioning my existence and never actually lived, just hanging on and getting by. There is no moral to my story, no silver lining. I wish I could say I had found God or a purpose, but it just wouldn't be true, and that's something I have to accept. You just go on breathing until you don't. I do have a lot of admiration for people who continue to go strong despite facing the same dilemma.

I also, have had a cynical and almost nihilistic view point of existence. I truly understand. At some point however, it finally clicked for me...that life brings on the meaning I assign to it, and I have to strive and work for that meaning. Also, that maybe I have been wrong, this entire time. Maybe, just maybe there is some inherent meaning and truth. Maybe, just maybe, life does not have to be just suffering and sadness. Yes, we start dying the minute we are conceived...but the flip-side to that coin is that there is time in between those two events, and that I am responsible for what I do in that time. I didn't appear in this life to waste it. I didn't appear in this life to just suffer. I am here to live, to the best of my ability at any given moment, in order to help, live, learn, and love. It may come off as cliche, but there is a lot of truth in that for me. Hang in there. I believe you can find meaning. You just might have to let go of some attachments to things.

@JONATHAN RODRIGUES yeah, seems to me (from this video at least) that he briefly touches on these concepts that seem interesting and thought-provoking, then skims over the surface and moves to the next thing without exposing any intricacies of the concepts. Basically he just plants a cryptic ‘thought seed’ and lets the listener do the rest of the thinking. This means that every listener will have a slightly different interpretation of what he’s saying…which means he isn’t saying much about anything at all.

I bear witness O Allah that you have sent down the last revelation the Quran and through your selected messenger Muhammed p.b.u we mankind have received the message. God has clearly stated our purpose being here, some will except it and others will arrogantly laugh it off as though it be petty matter. Allah the All-mighty says in the Quran: And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me. I do not want from them any provision, nor do I want them to feed Me. Indeed, it is Allah who is the [continual] Provider, the firm possessor of strength. And indeed, for those who have wronged is a portion [of punishment] like the portion of their predecessors, so let them not impatiently urge Me. And woe to those who have disbelieved from their Day which they are promised. 51:56-60 Are you from the ones who can hear, see, contemplate and reflect or from the ones who will leave this world to an eternal hereafter of regret, once our soul leaves our body I swear by Allah there is no return. Its eternal Paradise or eternal Hell may Allah guide us all. Allah says: Every soul will taste death, and you will only be given your [full] compensation on the Day of Resurrection. So he who is drawn away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise has attained [his desire]. And what is the life of this world except the enjoyment of delusion. Quran 3.185 I bear witness O Allah that I have delivered the message here and everyone who has read this is now responsible for their actions. Relaying on hope is hopeless, it's just another tweak of the mind to look for something else, a rejection of what is. Believing and hoping are mental escape mechanism, the minds inability to comprehend and accept of what is. There is a meaning and a message in all we encounter and experience. When ones heart is open to what ever happens, there is never any hopelessness or need to create a believe. The mind works in mysterious ways to find some conceptual key to see fleeting glimpses of our true nature. When you are home, their is no need to create anything anymore. Hope and believe are not needed anymore once we leave the plane of mental delusion. Everything will be clear from the illumination from one's true nature of mind.

That last bit about living in the here and now, that really hit me... I've been stuck in my head for around a decade now -- 35 years old and constantly living in the past. It's difficult to let go of something you never wanted to end in the first place, and I'm finding it hard to make new memories that live up to the ones I've made in the past. Life is fast and short, and I've wasted a decade of it, running around in circles in my head...

As someone who has a very creative mind that sometimes causes stress, as it does for all of us to a greater or lesser degree, I ultimately must remember that we humans are no different (at a fundamental level) than all other forms of life. We adapt to survive. The human mind adapted (or was given) the ability to think introspectively for example. We can process the idea of the future and thus prepare and predict with reason in order to safely navigate. The human mind is always curious. We crave stimulation and for those with more creative minds we tend to think about the meaning of life when in fact it is simply to survive and procreate. Our brain evolved to crave serotonin. We release Serotonin when we feel superior, have achieved something, figured it out or love. The world does not need "meaning", our human brain is a survival tool and when something is not understood (which can pose an existential threat to our being) we "worry" about it, or dwell on it seeking meaning or understanding so we can tame it. Our creativity which is a survival mechanism can carry us beyond the need to simply survive and thus lead to the ultimate question of why we are here. In fact it is quite simple; we were a creation of the coming together of two people (male and female) who conceived you. In order to survive our brains crave serotonin which effects your mood and thus how well you survive. Some people feel they must find the meaning of life in order to justify their existence. No you don't. Your mind may tell you that and crave the "answer", yet that craving is due to our advanced brain seeking knowledge as a survival mechanism. We are gifted with creative minds, some more than others, yet seek happiness in what you do understand and stop trying to give meaning to life beyond what is given. Your truth may be quite different than another's truth. So who is right? Learn to be content. Stop struggling for meaning to the most difficult of questions. Learn to accept while at the same time learning to enjoy the experience of not understanding it all. It's OK. Start to focus on what you see. Enjoy the fact that your eyes have adapted to see a flower within the visible light spectrum rather than in, for example, the rather bland infra-red or ultra-violet. Marvel that your brain has evolved to see the rainbow of colors instead of trying to understand why they do. It ultimately comes down to survival mechanisms that have taken millions of years of evolution. If you believe you can find the "meaning of life" you will still see a flower in the same visible light spectrum, you will still smell its fragrance with the same olfactory receptors........Do I believe in "God"? I believe in a Creator. With that, I do not need to understand it all as I never will. Yes, I have a very creative mind and have used it creating music. I also have a very analytical mind having been a career research scientist. I will never stop thinking about the "why" or "how", yet I will not allow that to be a stumbling block to relish the present. Life is a gift. Stop questioning its ultimate meaning. It simply is..........Your flaws are no greater than any other. You just believe it is because it dwells within your mind. Just .....be.

It's not weird, neither is it wonderful... If you think logically - then the universe, statistically speaking, is on an average wonderfulity and weirdness levels - which means it is not wonderful, since wonderful is more than average and it is not weird, since the existance is normal... Though you're kind of right about it being pointless, it is, after all, dependant on your own choice...

@@theopinionatedbystander Yeah, but what we are speaking about is existance, and both the weirdness and wonderfulness depend on perspective... And I personally have heard that there might be, or might have been life on Venus... That's a planet in this solar system... And even if there isn't - it still is ATLEAST about 1/9 chance that there is life in any other solar system - we simply can't see such far to say for certain, soo... life might not be as unique as you say. And I certaintly wouldn't call life wonderful, because I'm young and can already say that there is nothing in the world now that could surprise me - so I wouldn't call it wonderful too...
