Problem is, no one is going to be "paying the price" but the people of this country. Just a reminder folks, WE PAY THE TARIFFS, NOT THE COUNTRIES THAT EXPORT TO US.

So Bidens budgets have increased from 5 to nearly 7 trillion dollars during his presidency.....he raised the corporate tax rate to 28%....this has caused a more than 20% inflation rate since 2020....but none of that has affected the American public who has to pay these bills ???? This is why the Democraps aren't in charge anymore. ..they are stupid...

Hmmm... as a decades-long career logistics professional specializing in Customs and trade, I'm commenting on your comment about supporting companies who support US labor. People often overlook the millions of people employed in the logistics industry. Our numbers far exceed the numbers of manufacturing job gains, and many of these roles are high paying and/or union backed. What happens to us if we tip the balance too far the other way? That's not to say there shouldn't be US manufacturing, but the reality is that it costs less to make products using foreign labor. This is why Reagan encouraged the big labor migration of the early 1980s, with the auto sector taking much of their manufacturing offshore. Now, we lack the sophisticated infrastructure, and the investment to bring it back would be significant. Tariffs, in a normal world, are negotiated based on impact to US business. For example, because we want to protect our steel industry, there were already healthy tariffs on steel before 2016, and there were already additional tariffs on China by way of antidumping offset duties and limits on how much steel can be imported. Or....auto makers in the US often utilize triangular trades (parts from the US and overseas shipping to MX for subassembly build, which ships to US plant for auto assembly). The foreign content in the bill of material for the subassembly has to meet value constraints (along with other qualifying elements) if the auto maker is seeking reduced NAFTA tariffs. All of this, for me, means that the Trump tariffs are a bunch of drama meant to bamboozle the typical US consumer. It was working fine...don't mess with it. Last time he did this, he lost us the soybean markets and we are STILL subsidizing farmers as a result.

They have been outsourcing jobs since I was a kid . I remember when Made In The USA was a sign of highest quality. Slowly but surely everything is now manufactured in third world countries. It’s a very complicated issue . Americans fell in love with cheap disposable products . I’ve been a HVACR contractor for going on 47 years now ,and everything from EPA regulations to Chinese chemicals in refrigerants have caused skyrocketing prices. But quality is in the crapper . Tariffs can be good to level the playing field but large conglomerates will continue to look for cheap labor worldwide . Would be better to incentivize manufacturers to return to the USA rather than tariffs / tax …

Trump has two choices: impose tariffs and cause inflation to get worse, or go back on his promises in a very obvious way. I really want to see more American manufacturing. Living thru the 2000s where it was non stop closures here in the Midwest was terrible. But I also think of the famous quote: for every complex problem, there is a solution which is clear, simple, and wrong. Tariffs seem to be in that category.

One Thermostat works the ground Floor, The other works the 2nd floor. The WiFi has died on both of them. (Yes...We have a good WiFi Signal and I know how to connect them). They are old, still working manually (but no WiFi). I would like to replace them. Do you have any suggestions as to what would be good "plug & play" direct Honeywell replacement Thermostats? I believe imposing these tariffs will act to force the hand of these companies, who are based here and manufacturing elsewhere, to bring manufacturing back here.
@KadiddlehopperClem6 күн бұрын
No it will not. Even if it did, it would take many YEARS to begin manufacturing!
@miket55065 күн бұрын
@ HVAC aside, because I do agree with the statement in the video that people will pay no matter what when it comes to that, other products/markets certainly would. These companies, if faced with passing high tariffs to their customers, would see a marked decline in sales. Some to the point of nearing bankruptcy. They’d then be forced to decide: keep using cheap slave labor in china and keep the prices high because of tariffs, OR bring the work back here to avoid the tariffs and keep the price lower for the customers. I personally believe that there should be a 400% tariff on any product that can be made here but is instead being imported and originated overseas. It would drive the prices of imported goods so high that the customers would begin seeking domestic versions. As such, companies manufacturing overseas will see a decline in sales and either move operations back here, or new companies will form and begin making those products domestically, thus phasing-out the need for the previous companies.

@@blubu68 when companies started making products in china, did you see our prices for them go down? No; the companies are pocketing the difference. At that point, the domestic product would cost less than foreign and create American jobs.

My guess is that the consumers will be better off. Much of the HVAC is made in Texas so no worries. Tariffs are going to cause products to be made in USA vs. off the boat. Foreign made will likely then manufacture their products here vs there.
