I knew Canley and Gonzales, serving with them at the battle of Hue City in Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 1st Marine Division. John Canley was our Gunnery Sergeant at the time. I say this without any exaggeration, he was the bravest and calmest man I have ever seen in battles. When we were pinned down prone under fire, he would be standing up walking slowly behind us saying things like, "Be calm Marines" while bullets were flying all around him. Our company truly loved this man. We will always remember him with great respect.

I was there with the Gunny on the first and last day of the battle of Hue. He was my company Gunny in Alpha 1/1 and took command during those first few hallowing days of that battle. I will never forget him and mourn his passing as I'm sure all of us Marines who served with him do. Semper Fi and rest in the peace of the Lord.

Since the CAMERA WORK was so lame, I'd also like to personally thank Pat, John and Maria and others who were asked to stand but ignored by the camera. Hey, who in their right mind in a battle, is going to ask if you are from the Republican or Democratic party? This is absurd. We need ballots with the candidates names and qualifications, not which party. Not to say there can't be parties...no....just saying that I'd like a ballot that not across the board only one, because I think that will unite our country. Bone spurs are pretty debilitating. I had them and I could barely walk. Perhaps he had them, perhaps he didn't. If you served or are serving, you must admit he is doing a lot for the military. Funding, removal of the sequester, allowing generals to lead, trying to fix the VA for real, medical choices for Vets, he respects the military. He's trying, cut him a break.
