Here’s an ABC on tariffs folks. When we put tariffs on cars we import our trade partners also put counter tariffs on things we export overseas. So our products become also uncompetitive. If we can’t sell our products overseas then we have to make less. Making less means we don’t need to employ as many workers (job loses). Products we make and sell only here all of a sudden will be more expensive (due to higher labour and part cost plus low volumes). This makes these local companies less profitable. What happens to less profitable businesses? 😮

Yiu guys got it wrong. Tarrifs are more of a tit for tat tactic. You basically use tariffs on product where we at direct competition with other countries. Most effectively used where there's a huge trade deficit in favour of the importer. EG, Europe sells a car to US customers at 2% tarrifs. But the EU applies a 100% on US car import to EU. This is why US car manufacturers can't compete in EU. Solution of course is to tailor US cars to EU standard first. And then apply 100% tarrifs on their cars too. Surely this makes sense now?

It will be a huge extra expense for the companies, which will 100% get passed onto the consumer. 75% of the products on Amazon come from China, Trump plans to put at least a 60% tariff on anything coming from China, which means that 75% of Amazon products will have a 60% tariff fee added onto the prices. It's insanity, Amazon is huge and still a small example considering that such an insane amount of the stuff people need and buy every day comes from China. Big companies will raise prices to account for the 60% tariff and only lower them if they're not selling enough and get desperate enough to cut some profit. Small companies will raise prices to account for the 60% tariff and then the businesses will go under if they're not selling enough.

With China specifically, they will do anything keep their market share. That includes the Chinese government stepping in and absorbing the tariff for at least a number of years. Trump did this his last term and the price increases never really came. Inflation was rock bottom. In essence, we're exporting inflation. And hurting the Chinese government financially. This would probably continue for at least 5 years. That's the strategy. Using the huge, rich US consumer block as an economic weapon.
