As a Finn I find the whole comparison between forests up here and in Cali completely ridiculous. Finland is in the arctic, it's covered entirely in forest (except in the far north where trees don't grow) and one could basically either ski or swim through that forest all year around. Finland is cold. Finland is wet. That's why Finland isn't on fire.

@@eily_b If you're referring to Finland, then not in any major way that I've heard of. Sweden did have forest fires that caused some alarm here too. I'm not saying we're completely safe from climate change, but overall the threat of fires is much smaller here than in places like California or Portugal.

Feather dusters. Forests get dusty with pollen every where you need to constantly dust the pine tee needles and deciduous tree leaves. Finnish Forest floor care is a well established thing taken for granted and ignored till now!

I find how he treated Chris Wallace during that interview interesting as well. This is a man from Fox News, a network that has all but turned into state TV for Trump at this point, and yet even in the short clips shown here Trump was rude and combative to Wallace, talking over and interrupting him. My family is from Finland.....and NOBODY knows WTF Trump is Talking about!....First of all....Finland and California are Vastly different Ecosystems! Finland has a TON more Water in its Forests, lakes, rivers, and run off from snow in mountains etc. And most areas that are Forested are not densely populated like most of these California areas. So we have WAY Less instances of Forest Fires! Not to mention California is so over developed that has taken away alot of its natural water resources, but that is a minimal fact in relation to the increase in Temperatures over the last 20 years due to Climate Change! Combined with Incredibly strong, dry, unpredictable Wind Systems which can carry fire for miles in the air and start massive house fires from a lightning strike fire miles away.....It has very little to do with the "Forest Floor".... There are also massive valleys in between the forest areas that are simply miles of dry brush! So if a forest fire starts....you have miles of fuel for that fire.....That is a natural ecology....you can't 'Rake Up' miles of dry grasses that are an important part of the ecosystem, are too large to eliminate, and would totally destroy the natural growth! It's a major dry, arid climate. I have friends in the LA, Thousand Oak and Malibu areas that have tried to do things to their house like add metal roofing instead of wood, adding special glass and bars to their windows, trying to keep a water bumper around their property etc.....but these fires are the WORST in California History! If miles and miles of land are on fire and fire is being driven and fueled by the wind.....nothing will stand in its path, no amount of water or ditches can stop a Disaster of this magnitude.... People need to be more bloody careful with their campfires that's what started the one huge destructive blaze that claimed so many lives and destroyed the town of Paradise, but barring that....if there is a natural fire that occurs from a lightning storm and is near urban areas, there is not alot to do to stop it except get out of its path.....we don't have Fireproof Homes! These Fires are Massive and Devastating. Mother Nature will always win against Humans whether it's a massive fire, tsunami, earthquake etc. It's a horrible fact of Life. All my Love to the Families who lost Loved Ones and their Homes in this Massive Disaster and we all need to donate what we can to help these Families rebuild their Lives. 💞.

KirstiStephenson Actually, they haven’t finished investigating, yet. One possible ignition source I read about was sparks from a flat tire. Sparks from passing cars have started many of our fires. We had a simultaneous series of them in my neighborhood that were started that way, last year. This one called the Camp Fire, because it started near Camp Creek Road. The name has caused a lot of confusion. Thank you for the info about Finland😉 Our president is so embarrassing! I’m just glad our out- going & our in- coming governors didn’t react to his nonsense, because he would probably get offended & try to find a way to hold back federal aid. He hates California for not voting for him, as it is😒

In Finland we have some of the biggest densities of lakes and islands as a country, which means plenty of waterline besides the forests. And the word "suo" in Suomi (Finland in Finnish) also happens to mean a marsh which does make sense with the previous facts. Forest fires do happen here like they did in the last hot summer, but not too often. We could extinguish our own and even lend our aid in extinguishing Sweden's. I would say that it's a bigger concern here that a tree falls under the weight of snow and cuts a power line.

Trees and plants and insects depend on forest ground cover to live.If you raked the forest floor of it's ground cover you'd eliminate forest fires until the trees died from the floods laying their roots bare.No nation has EVER practiced forestry and fire prevention by raking ground cover.Do you have any idea what it would take to rake the millions of acres of forest in CA?
