@aromatherapyoils6 жыл бұрын
This is a great question, Carol. One way that I like to clean out my pyrex measuring cup is to place it upside down on a paper towel or newspaper, on a cookie sheet and place it is a warm oven (200 degrees) for 15-20 minutes. The carriers will all melt down onto the papertowel and then you can easily clear out the remaining residue.

@aromatherapyoils6 жыл бұрын
Whipped shea is more of a process take does some time (sometimes a few hours). After you’ve melted the shea you need to get it pretty cold before you whip it. I put the melted shea into the freeze for anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour until the top layer is thick and solidified and then I begin ‘whipping’ it. I blend with the immersion blender. Whipping to the consistency you prefer can take some time but it is well worth it!

Julie, I'm so sorry to hear about your unfortunate diagnosis. There are different perspectives on using oils for relieving certain symptoms when someone is undergoing cancer treatment; it becomes a personal decision we each have to make. Robert Tisserand suggests not using essential oils 1 week prior to treatment and 1 month after. That being said, essential oils are used widely in hospitals in the UK via inhalation for nausea when people are undergoing treatment. I do believe that natural remedies can be used to help the person with some of the uncomfortable symptoms such as nausea, lack of sleep, stress, anxiety, etc. I would suggest openly discussing with your/his/her physician, and perhaps try herbal teas. For nausea ginger teas with fresh lemon may be helpful. Using jojoba, argan or avocado oils without any essential oils to help support the skin would be a conservative way to help keep your skin in good condition while undergoing your radiation therapy. I hope this helps and I wish the best of luck in your treatment.

Hi Andrea! I made this last night and made sure that I took it off the heat once it melted. While I love the scent, the product came out really kind of grainy with lots of little clumps inside it. I placed it in a jar rather than a mold and find it’s difficult to spread. Did I make a misstep? Thanks so much! Xoxo
@aromatherapyoils5 жыл бұрын
Hi Brian! Graininess in butters does happen sometimes and it is still okay to use - it will melt on contact with the skin. Sometimes if the temperature is too high while melting it can cause graininess. Gently melting and then cooling quickly helps. Perhaps next time before adding the kpangnan you could try taking it off the stove, then add the kpangnan butter stirring gently until melted. When you pour in into your jars pop them in the fridge to cool.

Hi Jenny! Sharing information about essential oils is our passion. We're glad to hear you're enjoying our videos! 💜 Carnauba wax or candelilla wax are good vegan options to replace beeswax. They’re different than beeswax though, so be aware of that when you’re blending. We don’t have much experience with either, so we can't advise you on the amounts. Hi Andrea - I love the sound of this recipe. I have a couple of questions. In the recipe (video) you show weighing of the neroli infused jojoba, but in the written recipe you show the jojoba as 30ml (instead of grams), should we be weighing 28g on the scale, or measuring 30ml by volume, or does it matter? In other videos that you have made, I believe you have said to cap the jar quickly after pouring, how does this affect the essential oils by making it in the molds where they are left exposed to the air while hardening? Thanks so much. sharon
@aromatherapyoils6 жыл бұрын
Great questions, Sharon, you can easily measure both liquid and solids on a simple kitchen scale. It is totally fine to allow the bars (and even jarred butters) to be exposed to the air. Once the essential oils are blended with a fatty carrier there is less concern for evaporation.

Isn’t the melted wax etc, too warm to put the EO into right away? It doesn’t denature the EO?
@aromatherapyoils4 жыл бұрын
Great question, Denise! Heat can change the essential oil properties over time when heated at a high enough temperature for a long enough time. Short exposure is usually okay. People usually heat oils (like a candle diffuser or incense) for the lovely aroma and the benefit of enjoying the aroma. Most oils are steam distilled and they can withstand pretty high temperatures. Adding essential oils to melted wax etc, is totally fine. 😄

@aromatherapyoils6 жыл бұрын
Carol Mochizuki you could substitute with some other vegan wax such as Candelilla or Carnauba wax. Carnauba wax is a good option to replace beeswax - it is different than beeswax and I have never used it myself. You may need to experiment a little with the amount to get it to a consistency you prefer.

hello I was wondering if I can use coconut oil instead of jojoba and still pour them on the molds, I love the molds and want to do a few different recipes and I in your class for Aromatherapy for Natural living and was wondering what ratios and mixes I can use to pour into molds? thanks so much

You can use coconut oil, keeping in mind that this will become liquid in warmer temperatures. This recipe is a 5:1 ratio and that would work the same for one with coconut oil. Enjoy, Yani!

Shea butter (Vitellaria paradoxa (butyrospermum parkii)) works nicely.

can I substitute for mango butter?
@aromatherapyoils6 жыл бұрын
I think you might mean Kpangnan butter? Yes, you can use another other carrier butter/oil you would like. Remember if you use something that is liquid at room temperature your body butter will be softer.
@jackied72968 жыл бұрын
Can you whip it and put it in jars too? It would be so much easier to apply.
@aromatherapyoils6 жыл бұрын
You could Jackie, and you might consider adding more jojoba so that the consistency is not as hard and easier to whip. I like to use the molds for something different and fun but you could put this in a jar for sure!

I am new to the idea of making body butter. Where do you buy your ingredients. Bee wax, jojoba oil with neroli etc thanks for any help you can give this beginner
@bindi31058 жыл бұрын
You would find most of these things at a health food store. Andrea has said on a couple of other questions that you can substitute the neroli infused jojoba with natural jojoba. You can also try googling them and see if there is somewhere close to you that sells them. Hope that helps.

Hi! how do I know how many drops of essential oil to add? I'm making a body butter that includes shea+coca butter with jojoba and grapeseed oil, But I'm confused about how many drops to add for essential oil. I know essential oils should be a maximum of 1 or 2% to avoid skin irritation.
@aromatherapyoils2 жыл бұрын
Hi Salwa! Thank you for this great question! Generally, effective blends are made using a dilution ratio of 1%, 2%, or 3% of essential oil to the carrier. Here are the dilution guidelines we recommend at Aromahead: -A 1% dilution in 1 oz (30 ml) of carrier is 5 to 6 drops (for children and seniors). -A 2% dilution in 1 oz (30 ml) of carrier is 10 to 12 drops (for supporting general health). -A 3% dilution in 1 oz (30 ml) of carrier is 15 to 18 drops (for acute health concerns). The essential oils in this recipe (My Peaceful Body Butter) using 6oz of carrier are: 15 drops Neroli essential oil (Citrus aurantium var. amara) 20 drops Lavender essential oil (Lavandula angustifolia) 15 drops Sweet Orange essential oil (Citrus sinensis) 10 drops Frankincense essential oil (Boswellia carterii) We used 60 drops of essential oil in 6oz of carrier for a 2% dilution. You can find our dilution reference guidelines in the Introduction to Essential Oils class under the 4th tab "4. Making Products" and from there "Diluting Essential Oils". www.aromahead.com/courses/introduction-essential-oils Hope this helps to clarify. Happy blending! 💜

You can alter the ingredients anyway you would like, Bana Juma. Using coconut oil will soften the consistency a bit more than using shea butter.

How would I go about turning this into a whipped body butter instead of adding it to the molds? Would I let it cool until it is mostly solid and then use a stand mixer to whip it?
@daniellebean31167 жыл бұрын
Ok I think I will start with pouring it into jars and see how that goes - I purchased some butters and ingredients from aromatics international to start with some products for myself. What would be substituted with the beeswax if a whipped consistency was desired? In the past when I've wanted to make a whipped body butter it has become very melted. Maybe whipped doesn't mean it is better :)

Where do you get your essential oils?

brownsugar 74 there are many wonderful companies. We like to recommend buying from companies that import directly from the distillers, that test every batch of oil with GC/MS, and that share the batch specific GC/MS reports with their customers. This ensures quality and demonstrates accountability. Here are a few we can recommend: Aromatics International - www.aromatics.com/ Essential Elements - essentialelementsstore.com/ Pompeii Organics - www.pompeiiorganics.com/ Florihana (US) - www.florihana-usa.com/ Florihana (Europe) - www.florihana.com/en/ Aliksir (Canada) - www.aliksir.com/ We explain about GC/MS testing here on the Aromahead Blog: blog.aromahead.com/2009/12/04/essential-oil-industry-standards-aromatics-international-supports-gcms-testing Hope this helps!

I would suggest purchasing an inexpensive kitchen scale available at any home goods store... it would be difficult to measure the ingredients accurately with liquid measure and the butter would not come out with right consistency.

I have been experimenting with making my own body butter. Do you know why the scent of the shea butter overpowers the scent of the fragrant essential oils. I am adding at least 20 drops to recipe.
@aromatherapyoils6 жыл бұрын
Shea butter does have a stronger aroma and can sometimes dampen down the scents of the oils. I personally enjoy the scent of shea butter but you could always add a bit more oil to help bring the essential oil aroma through.

@aromatherapyoils6 жыл бұрын
Frances, you could simply wrap the body bar in waxed paper and ship it to her. You wouldn't need to add any preservatives since this is all oils. You'd just want to be sure that it doesn't set in the hot sun in her mailbox or it could melt.

I know some essential oils aren't kid safe or some people have sensitivities can I wear this body butter out in public without effecting others in a negative way? Also, can I used it has a hand lotion and still eat my food with it on my hands?
@aromatherapyoils6 жыл бұрын
You are correct, we do have to be careful with certain essential oil around children and some medical conditions but that is not a concern when you are wearing the oils, like in this butter, around children or even eating food out of your hands that have used EO's in a lotion.

I thought putting essential oils into anything hot destroys the oil. Is that true, Andrea? Or is the butter mixture not that hot?
@bindi31058 жыл бұрын
Thanks Andrea :)
@aromatherapyoils6 жыл бұрын
The concern with adding essential oils to a hot base it that they will evaporate more quickly. You could allow the butter base to cool just a bit and then add the essential oils just before pouring them into the mold.

I love these video's. Thank you so much for sharing with us. What sort of hardness is this butter going to have if its in a jar? Will it be soft enough to scoop and spread around? Or is it going to be hard and need to melt into your hands before we can rub it in? Will plain Jojoba work as well in this recipie?? Thank you again!
@andreabutje92188 жыл бұрын
Debora the consistency would be the same as the heart shaped molds. The warmth of your hands will soften it as you rub it into your skin. You could use regular Jojoba oil in place of the Neroli infused Jojoba. Have fun blending!

You'll need to use a bit of pressure to get it out of the jar. If you'd like it softer you could aways add an additional ounce of the jojoba. This will soften the consistency.
