Knights Ferry crawler here again. Thank you so much for posting this video. I get an unbelievable amount of advice from you, and your reviews, and since I’ve only been crawling for about a year, this comes in very handy. Now I want to build a TRX4 sport portal axle LCG build, from scratch, and I’ve never even built a kit before. LMAO! I’ve modified my only 2 RTR crawlers enough to be able to figure it out. I’m debating on gspeed, or brazin, which transmission/or transfer case. I have the hobbywing fusion motors in both my current rigs, and I would love to install one in an LCG rig, because they are so easy, and awesome. Honestly, I think they made those for idiot new B’s like me. Keep up the awesome videos. You are one of the people I trust the most, when trying to make a decision which upgrades spend money on.

I would get the Trx4 sport portal axles and then the other parts. The links were a bit of mix and match since this isn’t a standard configuration. Brazin ATL chassis, Scx 10.2 skid , Trx4 axles.

Hey Francis, I’m building my first LCG crawler. Pretty much very similar to this. I love 72 Chevy C10 bodies. Proline currently only sells the 66 C10 for crawlers. I am wondering if you know if this is the Stampede proline 72 Chevy C10 body?? I just measured the stampede C10 at my local hobby shop, and it is only 14” long. My chassis rails (ATL V2 non angled skid) is 16.5” long. Just trying to figure stuff out, and was wondering if you knew. Power wagon is another option, but literally everyone uses those. By the way, the weather at Knights Ferry Ca has been superb! Saturday and Sunday mornings, if your up for the drive. Check the “Knights ferry rc crawler” facebook page, asap, just to see the current profile picture. It will give you idea of all the knarly lines. Defiantly bring your camera.

Links are HCRC but a bit of mix and match since I opted to use the scx10.2 skid. The lowers were for a VS410 and Trx4 axles. The uppers were extra links I had.

ATL G10 composite Chassis 75, Trx4 sport axles 140, Stainless links 60, delrin skid 20, trans w/SAF gears 115, dual servo mount and panhard 40. Add your choice of wheels, tires, servo, motor, ESC, shocks, body mount, chassis brace, bumpers... the beauty of a custom build is you configure it to your specs. I prolly have 800 -1000 in mine.

We don't review Vaterra anymore because it is an abandoned brand and they've stopped developing that platform a couple years ago. They just release new bodies here and there. It was good 4 years ago but it's really dated now with few features and a lot of torque twist. I'd go with the TRX4 Sport, Element RC or SCX10 ii.

It depends what your goal is for this crawler. I would go check out Brazin scale RC Fan page on FB. Lots of info there. You can get the conversion skid to use the stock Trx4 trans and most of the links. I just happen to have this trans and wanted a lighter rig.

Doesn't sidehill as well as is. But way more clearance and seems more rough trail capable. With clearance this high, one can run 4.2 inch tires and dominate i think. Steering is amazing and lack of torque twist, smoothness is impressive

Theres a good video on chassis comparison posted in the comments. I run both chassis and both are great but they are also designed for different purposes. For portals I like the ATL, for SCX10.2 axles - GSpeed. From Brazin scale RC website: “What we have here is your LCG Portal solution. Portal axles are great for ground clearance but essentially your adding ride heigh. To combat that we’ve optimized the up travel clearance as much as possible offering you the most performance and tune-ability as possible.”
