pavlovas are pretty popular in norway around our national day, so here's my opinions: - strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and chocolate flakes are the best topping. who tf uses citrus. - nobody cares about cracks, it's covered in cream and will be eaten anyways. - pavlovas can absolutely be layered, idk why that disqualified Eugene... - Cheating on your wife is not part of the recipe

there’s a part of me that wished zach just never realized he was supposed to have whites not full eggs just to see what happened during judging and how long it would’ve taken to realize edit: y’all ik it wouldn’t have worked and he probably would’ve figured it out not too long after he did but considering they likely had a time constraint, zach probably wouldn’t have had time to redo everything so it’d be funny to see what he ended up with :)

It probably would have turned into more of a custard (think like pudding almost) but without the milk. So... like.... sweet eggy cream, kinda. Cuz it would whip up a little with the egg yolks, just not change shape and texture like the whites do. And the sugar added would add structure.... Yeah it would prob just be sweet scrambled eggs on a baking sheet with some whipped cream on top. (I’m an avid home baker so this just a guess but a good one backed by years of fucking shit up haha)

As an Australian, where a pavlova is more common...it's funny saeeing the glowing reccomendation of citrus fruits. I feel like it's fairly rare to see them served with citrus? I usually see them with berries or peaches or chocolate even. ASlso, layered pavlovas are a thing.

I think because citrus is a winter fruit however stone fruit is a summer fruit so we tend to use what’s in season around the time we eat it (usually around Christmas/summer)

I found it really funny at parts because it was really, not wrong exactly, but totally out of what I would call normal; like sure the pav isn't tall but I don't think I would ensure it was short, or how Ariel was talking about making the fruits thin so you taste different parts - I think your piece falling over is just kind of part of it. It just kinda screams American.

I’m assuming each spread (every two pages) has one big picture of the recipe on one page and the actual recipe on the other so I don’t think it’s only 4 recipes. That’d be ridiculous

Right? For example, I feel like it's actually useful that they caught the "oven door open" thing. That COULD be an issue, if they haven't clarified well enough what "open" means in a situation where getting it even slightly wrong can ruin the presentation. I would call that a fault of the recipe.

I will say, I have to agree with Zach about step one being separate the egg yolks. Ive always learned that you MUST make lists very idiot proof and include ANY step. Also agree that list should have said “crack” the oven door. Tiny tweaks but I hope this was helpful for Ned and Ariel 🥰

As a kiwi we say to not even crack the door oven. The best way to do it is to make it the night before you need it and when you turn off the oven you just leave it in there without opening it till the next morning when you take it out to put on the toppings.

Tip from an Australian that may have been tipsy the last time she made a pavlova! If you break it too much after it's baked, just break it some more and layer it in some serving bowls with berry coulis and whipped cream or custard for some Eton mess!
