By the time he is two years old, Wyatt had stabbed someone with a sword, caused death and destruction to the city by conjuring a dragon and now shrinks and traps his parents in a doll house. But Piper won't bind his powers because reasons. Whenever she whines about wanting a normal life, I just want to scream "shut the f up, all this Wyatt crap is your fault!"

I remember that charmed was always on just as one of my afterschool activities was ending. I remember rushing upstairs to turn it on to catch the end of it. I always assumed the plot holes and bad characterization was just because I constantly missed important things. Honestly, the stuff I made up in my head to fill in the gaps was way better than what the show wrote. This episode sticks out in my memory since I love dollhouses.

honestly, having zanku take controle of the house when they are at p3 would have been a bit stupid looking but quite effective in a "we're ot safe anywhere anymore" kinda way and considering the end of episode nightout cheering was so established at this point it would have been a nice way to zhuzh it up at the end of the show

Phoebe Halliwell is a contender for one of my least favorite characters in media. Certainly, when it comes to supernatural based shows. And even though Piper is my favorite sister she has it VERY hard to like her a lot of the time that she can be irritating. Like not binding her baby's powers. There's literally an episode not too far from this where Wyatt summons demons that attack to avoid going to preschool and even creates an evil version of Leo to get everyone's attention due to Leo's inattentiveness, I believe this was around the time he was going crazy from murdering an Elder. Ask Phoebe was one of the worst things they added to the show. She worked at the paper for less than half a season and next thing you know she's famous with a billboard and tv interviews. Prue and Piper had successful careers but they at least had prior experience so you could buy it. They also didn't get their asses kissed for it 24/7 or were immune to being fired. In fact, Phoebe always came off as a bad imitation of Prue when it came to her job and Cordelia Chase from Buffy. In fact, there are similar parallels between Phoebe and Cordelia. Only the latter is a MUCH better character! Nothing that happens concerning the paper is the least bit realistic or believable. Phoebe can have sex with her boss in his office in one episode then physically assault her other boss in the next yet still keep her job. One time Elise puts Phoebe in charge for the day because apparently there isn't anybody more qualified than the advice columnist who constantly has to leave work due to "family emergencies". What about in season 8 when Phoebe supposedly dies? Good thing her cousin turns up so let's just let her work here in Phoebe's place. There's HEAPS more examples of stupid shit I could bring up, but I don't wanna rattle on. Hell in a couple of episodes from this one, when the ugliest demon in the underworld (Imara) switches bodies with Phoebe and sexually assaults a man, Phoebe basically gets a get out of jail free card and avoids lawsuits with her column because Elise refuse to believe the man's story that Phoebe would "do that" to anyone. Phoebe doesn't even try to make up an excuse to defend the guy, just gives off one of her condescending glares and goes along with it, despite the fact she's an advice columnist that deals with issues like relationships and love, sexual assault would very much be a topic she could focus on but chose to let a man suffer for it because its Phoebe! This was probably the one instance Elise felt more like a character outside of Season 4 and not just a robot who asskisses Phoebe all day, I wish Elise got more moments like this. Season 7 was the worst of Phoebe obsessing over her job, yes even worse than 5 with the Cole drama was at its worst. In this season they introduce world ending or more grander stakes, yet Phoebe STILL chooses to focus on her column any way. Like in the opener she was put on sabbatical by Elise, yet after she and Paige learn Piper and Leo become Hindu gods who will end the world if they have sex, Phoebe decides to ditch everyone just to go to work and leave Paige to solve the situation by herself, including keeping Wyatt away. All of this just so she could go to work, get presented by Leslie (Nick Lachey) to be a ghostwriter and have her be Grandma Ghost and act like a sexist asshole. Advice column Phoebe was constantly praised and when you need to hire extras and guest stars to praise how beautiful or amazing your main character is, it feels really forced and ego centric from a storytelling perspective. A show should never force you or tell you that a character is great. I also feel that when you compare jobs it lacked the feel Prue, Piper and Paige's had. Advice columnist made little sense to the charmed lore. Especially someone who was tired of all the demon hunting. Why become a celebrity and become well known if you hate the demonic attention so much? It all felt counterproductive. Not to mention her advice columnist job didn't blend itself into magic world the way it did with the other sisters.

As a kid I loved miniatures, so when I was chanel surfing back in the day I saw this episode half way through and watched charmed based on the fact I wanted to see the whole of this episode. Took 3 months of repeats for the network to rerun the episode and by the the show has rotted away my brains inhibitions and I was hooked.😂

Even as a fan of Charmed (at least the first 4 seasons) to me this was also a showcase of one of the more blatant examples of Pipers negligence in not binding her babys powers. Which strangely is an unpopular opinion in the fandom. To me Season 7 is where Phoebe's obsession with work was at its worst outside of season 6. In a lot of plots this season Phoebe outright bails on her sister's or world ending stakes just to go to work, this was even in the season opener which has that stupid sexism plot between her and Nick Lacheys character Leslie. She outright bails on the situation that involves Piper and Leo becoming Hindu gods who will end the world if they have sex, and she leaves Paige to deal with it, despite being in a sabbatical. This however is the worst offender of it because she holds up saving Piper and Leo just to make sure she had to work on her column, while Paige had to keep coaxing her to get her ass together. When it comes to the underworld thing, I do remember in an earlier season (3 or 4) Leo mentioned how difficult it was to orb into the underworld because he couldn't hear their calls, and is more difficult to orb out of there, yet here Paige can orb as if its just another place in San Francisco. For me the show never makes a compelling argument as to why Piper never wants to bind Wyatt's powers, yet the most defense people bring up is he would be vulnerable to demon attacks, but here's a loop hole to that, just hind his active powers and keep the force field, since it's only used for protection anyway. Not to mention any time a demon involved Wyatt specifically it was always something he conjured up or is related to in some way. I can't think of any other moments outside the Crone who wanted to target Wyatt specifically that wasn't related to something he did. There are also points in the show where him having powers keeps him from socializing with other children! For me though Phoebe is the Margoyle of this episode with Piper we second place.

And I can't believe the amount of love Chris gets from the fandom. He is a horrible person. I'm sure the actor that played him is a good actor, but this series gives him nothing to work with. It's like his character is put on a pedestal because he happens to be physically attractive.

Charmed is the only show I know that makes callbacks to earlier seasons in a way that instantly murders continuity. They retcon the shadow thing as being the raw power from the nexus (bc the house is located in a pentagram), even though the black smoke looks like the evil Woogy shadow from season 1. Even if you say the season 1 Woogy was a demon that just fed off the nexus, why is the spell to close the nexus the same one they use for the Woogy? "I am light, I am one too strong to fight" - Foreshadowed selfish grandiose Phoebe.

So originally the woogie was a demonic spirit that was trapped in the nexus under the house. Eventually, the writers forgot that they were two different things and the nexus just became the shadow. So much of original Charmed comes off like they know there are things that happen in TV shows, and they try to do them, and the execution ends up extremely poor due to a total lack of understanding of how characters should respond to things. Leo being home all the time and it irritating Piper because he's stir-crazy and trying to channel that into cleaning, etc, but going overboard? That could be comedic in something else, but they just have Leo doing something not terribly unreasonable and have Piper overreacting to it because they know the payoff they want but do not put the work in to justify it, same as Phoebe with Cole being milked for Phoebe's anger, arc-wise, but doing a really shitty job of having her have any introspection about her own actions and behavior, so it is just garbage.

The frequency with which the Charmed Ones themselves end up as the Margoyle of the episode really makes me think of Phelous’ reviews of the Turtles Next Mutation show, where the main turtles would frequently be the biggest idiot of the episode. That version of the Turtles would really team up well with this show. Really looking forward to that reboot series retrospective video~

with all the cleaning leo does in this episode makes me realize this would have been a fun episode to do fairy tale tropes. they repeated plots in season 8 half the time anyway. leo becomes cinderella. piper and phoebe are the evil stepsisters. grandma ghost is the stepmother. xD honestly there's times where i think leo and paige might have been a better couple. he treats paige better than her own sisters a lot. which is kinda sad. zankou's attacks to get them out of the house could have been simpler if instead of warnings and random attacks he kidnapped leo. being mortal leo can't orb away and it's a threat to his life. then they have to rescue him and stop zankou. the shadow could still use leo but it'd make more sense. later on, they act like zankou is some criminal mastermind by stealing piper and phoebe's powers and forcing them to retreat to magic school. but i feel like he either got lucky or took a lot longer to plan that. because this plan was very weak.

It really does feel like this show is halfway to being just a flat farce. Demons are attacking and nobody cares, Phoebe just pisses off to her job when her sister is missing in her house has been invaded, her boss doesn't give a shit about the paper, Paige throws away her setup destiny, Piper clearly hates Leo but the bad guy miscalculates because of Love or something, and speaking of which our bad guy Mastermind is a complete dipshit. If the show had its tongue in its cheek it might have actually been funny.

i think the charmed ones only wanted leo as a whitelighter. they tolerated chris and found him more of a nuisance at times. i think the accepted him more when they find out he was piper and leo's son. anytime they tried to give them a new whitelighter didn't work out so well. natalie and future chris died. and the new guy in season 7 the sisters turned into werewolves or something like thats during the full moon and attacked him. it took several elders to heal him so apparently they severly injured him if they couldn't kill him. that's how much they don't want anyone else but leo. if i was a whitelighter i wouldn't go protect the charmed one either after that. 2 whitelighters dead, one became an Elder, an Avatar, an Elder again, and then eventually a human. and one badly injured. it's a good thing paige learned how to heal or they'd have had baby wyatt healing them all the time.

I love this podcast and I sometimes listen to the episodes over and over again. But the little clips in it are mostly just annoying and distracting. Especially the "badly written" clip is way too loud and way too shrill and is extremely irritating if you use headphones and listen to it multiple times in an episode. Many clips also make no real sense in the context of the situation. I had to mention it :( Love you anyway

See, representation isn't always good. Sometimes it's forced in and just acts really jarring, but sometimes it's even worse than that: sometimes it means _you have to interact with Phoebe!_ Good point about it being San Francisco, though. In another city maybe it'd just be "okay, they just never bumped into someone" or "it never came up" but as far as pop culture has taught me you can't take three steps in San Francisco without bumping into a flaming gay stereotype.
