FYI, most "space food" isn't actually like that. They don't have anything that produced crumbs because the fine partials from the food would mess up the filtration system.

Did they forget to rehydrate them?
@emileebaker85204 жыл бұрын
Dehydrated space food is served in pouches with a nozzle attached so that water can be added to reconstitute the food without potentially contaminating the environment, then I believe in most cases the food is either eaten through the nozzle or a zip-top opening.

I think they forgot to rehydrate the food or they were not able to read the instructions.

Actually, while some space food is, in fact, dehydrated to make it more shelf stable and light weight, said food comes in bags and has to be rehydrated before consumption. Each bag comes with instructions (temperature and amount of water and how long to have it sit), the water is kinda injected into the bag via a water dispersing system (there are two on the ISS - in the Russian service module Zvezda and the US Node 1 Unity), where you can choose from room temperature, warm and hot water. Once the food is ready-to-eat the package is cut open and eaten with a spoon or fork. Other space food is just made shelf stable, but still containing a full amount of moisture, that one is put into an oven or can heater (cans are mostly Russian, US meals use bags). As far as Japanese space food goes, there is some excellent info on the JAXA web site: iss.jaxa.jp/en/spacefood/about/

For me it is a toss up between the Takoyaki and the Mochi. The Takoyaki looked dry...like it might suck up all the moisture in ur mouth, but had good flavor. The mochi looked like real Mochi, once rehydrated. I would have to compare the two side by side to pick the winner. Thanks boys for making this video...enjoyed it.

In the US Space Program their favorite food is the shrimp cocktail, because being in zero gravity effects the taste buds. Foods with spicier and stronger flavors are favored for that reason. Shrimp cocktail just happens to be the one that they can taste the best due to the horseradish in the sauce. True story. I saw it on a documentary about NASA. ✌️❤️😊

weird do they have to be rehydrated in space? I was thinking maybe crumbly food might not be good floating around the ISS
@OllamhDrab4 жыл бұрын
They do have a special machine that can like inject hot water or steam into a lot of dehydrated things to kinda perk em up for a nicer space dining experience. I dunno if those could approximate that in a regular kitchen. :) (Like, those takoyaki might turn into something more like street food if steamed in the bag, and maybe that's how they'd manage the mochi, too, cause that package probably just wouldn't work in microgravity. )
Asian food on its own is fun to try , let alone pace version of it !!!! Awesome video guys :)

Never been in a space ship and never flown to the moon, but these foods are too good to be true. Isn’t it normally that space food comes in tooth paste like with flavouring in it?
@lmaree2008864 жыл бұрын
No it comes in bags similar to these with sealed round rubber where a needle is injected to add water into the bag to rehydrate the food. There are some foods like tortillas that do not need water. There are plenty of videos on here about current space foods, they are not freeze dried and eaten like this tough as crumbs and powders are dangerous in space.
