Trying POLISH BIGOS & ZUBROWKA VODKA in WARSAW.

Today I'm at a famous local chain of restaurants in Warsaw called Zapiecek. I came to try some traditional Polish food and this place has all the famous Polish dishes. I decided to try something I've never had before called "Bigos". It's a dish made up of sauerkraut, mushrooms, meat and other spices. It was absolutely delicious and they gave me a huge portion. I also decided to try the Zubrowka Bison Grass vodka. Which is a famous Polish Vodka. It was very smooth, but also quite strong. One shot was enough for me. A great dining experience at a famous local eatery in Warsaw.

Zapiecek was a warm place to sleep in a former farmhouse. In the heyday of tiled stoves, these were places behind or on top of the stove, which they use as a den.

The polish food is quite delicious, cabbage and meat, and vodka shot is very strong, so take it easy with your shot! I love the combination, food and booze! Thanks for sharing.

I have been to this restaurant, it's very cozy and not too pricy. Somebody who came with this name had a strong association with rural Poland. 'Zapiecek' is a warm place behind the main fireplace in the house (as one of the comments mentioned), not too hot, not to cold, just right. It played very important role in the process of bread making when a steady warm temperature is a must. You couldn't really see it in a city but if you go into country with a little bit of luck these places can still be found.

You won't eat good bigos in a restaurant. The method of preparation is quite complicated. Bigos needs to be cooked for several days (the longer it is cooked, the better. The flavors should penetrate). Sanitary regulations prohibit such culinary procedures at present. A good bigos must contain several types of meat and sausages, dried mushrooms, dried and smoked plums, red wine, etc. There are several types of bigos. My favorite is prepared on venison.
