I was looking forward to trying Popeyes. I went to the same place a few weeks ago. It was garbage. Biscuits and gravy was the most disappointing for me. And the chicken wasn't spicy enough by a long way.

Yeah unfortunately everything they bring to the UK they have to lower the spice levels and substitute a lot of things so its never the same as the US and not nearly as good. You have to try Popeyes in the US but be warned their version of spicy is actually spicy compared to food in the UK@@thebolsta

@@space_4736 The coating on the chicken was too thick and porous, it was dripping with carbonised, dirty grease and oil. Biscuits were hard and stale, gravy was tasteless. Most of my food ended up getting thrown to the fish in the canal. The best bet for finding good takeaway food in a place you don't know (or even in your home town), is getting in a taxi, and asking the driver where they go. If you ever see a chicken place with a que of taxi drivers waiting, that's the place to eat. And it will never be a big chain restaurant.

Good idea. Gravy has fat in it and the chilli is fat soluble. Why full fat yoghurt or lassi is a popular way of tempering the heat. Fizzy drinks and lager sometimes make it worse!

I live in Texas, and I love Popeyes! I've never had the classic, I always go for the spicy. Too bad they don't have the red beans and rice like they do here, it's one of my favorites! The biscuits here are soft and pillowy with lots of butter flavor. We always eat out on Fridays, and you've convinced me to go to Popeyes! Oh yeah, the Cajun fries are delicious!!! Subscribed. As an American, Popeye's red beans & rice and their spicy chicken sandwich are some of the top fast food chain items, and even their red beans & rice are better than fancy Cajun places here.

I'm from the bayou and I agree. A lot of prime restaurants in the New Orleans metro area do not do good redbeans. Popeyes' recipe is unique and consistent. My favorite is smashing a biscuit into the bottom of the bowl.

The trick is to get the tenders....leave them in the bag and add about three or four sachets of Cajun Sparkle - shake until coated and then use the Mardi Gras Mustard dipping sauce. Cheers Danny, great review just wanna give you a headsup as an American. We tend to debate loads about whether Popeyes vs KFC is better. The sad bit is that KFC is usually more available to all Middle-Class families (especially with current inflation) whilst, Popeyes is generally reserved for lower income areas. Popeyes tends to have better food, but value to Dollar leans towards KFC because the family bucket which feeds a family of 5 for $30 can't be beat. KFC feeds families, Popeyes feeds individuals.

Mash n gravy, cajun fries, cole slaw and the biscuits are the best but cant forget the spicy chicken :) The UK biscuits look way different though than American ones, they're crisp outside and a buttery soft middle that you can split in two and make a mini sandwich with.

Fun fact, for those who don't know the difference between scone and biscuit, a biscuit is more buttery and fluffy because we no longer do the 2nd step of baking it one more time. Since we found it unnecessary since its a food bound to be eaten in shops and at the port. However, scones did still exist for those who were traveling. Just not for the common person.

Chicken from the US, can not be imported in to the UK. In the US chickens are washed in a chlorine bath wash after being culled (part of the cleaning process!) due to salmonella. Here in the UK this process is banned and we rely on antibiotic. This is also the part of reason Americans keep there eggs in the fridge, and we don't here in the UK PS Happy new year, it's so nice to see people wanting pictures, and your willingness to help them. hope 2024 is a big success for you.
