Biology girl here... I wouldn't use this for a long period of time. Products are formulated and stabilized to prevent microbial growth. When you add water to any product, it changes the ratios. Water encourages microbial growth. The mold and bacteria inhibitor, in the product, does not account for added nonsteril water. This goes for soaps, hair products and lotions etc. I wouldn't use it for longer than a week personally.

Notes from a cosmetic formulator. -The addition of water to stretch any cosmetic product throws the formula off balance. -Water introduces microbes and bacteria into the product, and now your product is no longer shelf stable and can develop yeast and mold or cause an adverse reaction to your hair and skin. -This also waters down the product and will affect the performance of this product negatively. *Please take caution when trying trends on the internet because not all trends are safe.

That is for products that do not have any preservatives in them. gel already contains preservatives so water won’t make the gel “create mold/yeast” Products that are more prone to mold and bacteria are natural oils or any product that doesn’t contain preservatives ( not recommended 😬) I’ve been doing research for a while on hair products with different companies and that’s how I know this.
@jamialaprince65564 күн бұрын
@MilkaMwiza In light of your reference of oil being more prone to mold and bacteria is less likely than a water based product or water soluble ingredients because oil is an anhydrous product that contains absolutely no water unless formulated with an emulsifier and other water based ingredients that will then cause a need for a preservative to make the product shelf stable. Oils can, in fact, go rancid if it is expired, in some cases exposed to different light sources, or if outside contaminants are introduced such as bacteria from hands, or it being left open without a lid. This is more likely to happen with solid oils full of fatty acids like Shea butter, etc, because we're more likely to put our hands inside a jar instead of a bottle full of liquid oils.

I no longer use hair gel, I went on Amazon and bought a gallon of aloe vera gel, the one that you use for sunscreen, and I use that to hold my hair now. My hair has been growing longer and faster, and it is so strong from using pure aloe vera as gel you guys should try it.

@CrystericalАй бұрын
It is water based but it’s also formulated proportionally with preservatives. Over time as you put your hands in the solution you will introduce bacteria and fungus that has the ability to grow because there’s more water in the solution. A better method is to take out what you need, put it in another receptacle add the water and immediately use it. Just my two cents. Looking out for the natural girlies ❤
@itsbeauty2u_Ай бұрын
@@Crystericalwas just about to say this. The amount of preservative already in the formulation doesn't account for the extra water being added in. And the amount of time it's already been active counts, as well....

So I’m 45 and I’ve been using this gel ever since I was 13 years old. So how it works is the more water you pour The consistency of the hair gel will be… let’s just say …looser not as firm/not as strong of a hold. if you have quite a bit left and you pour a little water in there, it will maintain a stiffer consistency, meaning more hold versus loose n watery. I honestly have one with water added, and one without. I use the one with water at it if I want a looser type of curl meaning my hair won’t be so crunchy. The gel will have a softer hold the more water you apply into the mixture.

This was pretty awesome. I would suggest using either distilled water or sterilizing your water by boiling it and then letting it cool before mixing. That will help to make it last longer before microbial growth. And using distilled water on your hair makes your hair softer.

To add to this, I definitely suggest that you scoop some into another container, add water and a couple of drops of a hair healthy essential oil like rosemary, if it agrees with you. And if you don’t finish that amount you scooped and added water to, store the rest in the fridge and use it asap. Just to avoid any bacterial growth, so you don’t damage your hair or wind up having to toss the whole jar. Otherwise this does work!

I believe if you try this it doesn’t make sense to even make that much. The more water you add the less stable it is in all areas. So like one woman said, it will cause bacteria to grow. Another issue is the gel will not be as strong either. The more you add to a product the less it does what the product is intended to. If you don’t mind weaker gel then I’d just mix it with water was in styling. So apply the gel then add water to the gel you’ve applied. If your goal is to make it last longer ofcourse.

@exoticbeautybrina215625 күн бұрын
Well this simply means. That when you buy a new jar of gel. You keep this current jar and put a few heavy spoonful of gel in this jar and add the water and mix. So your one jar of new gel is going to make about 6-8 jars of gel from now on. But i would advice after mixing the gel in with the water to add some olive, tree tree oils into the gel, to keep your hair moisture whenever you are using your gel. Instead of having brittle and dry hair. Before putting the gel into your hair, make sure to use some hair growing oils and hair moisturizer into your hair when you are preparing your hair before you put the gel in, with the olive and tea tree oil mixed into the gel portion. All of this is the fact that by adding the water to make more gel, the gel quality isn't the same anymore with the added oils that was added in the gel when they made that gel batch. It is diluted now with the added water, so by adding some hair olive oil and tea tree oils into the new batch with the water will add back some substance into it, while using it in your hair to avoid breakages etc. Good luck.
