It’s not that wild tbh. More people die of ferries than to sharks so it’s a valid fear 😬 it’s 500 vs 10 a year. So I HONESTLY get it, it’s not as crazy as it seems. The odds are still really tiny, but ferries don’t feel safe when you’re on them 🤣 I’ve had anxiety when on ferries too, especially when your thoughts are spiralling 😬

Hey Mak, for earthquake exposure therapy: some science museums have earthquake simulators. In San Francisco, the California Academy of Sciences has a tiny earthquake room that simulates the big 1906 earthquake. There’s the sound of plates breaking too. You could do that on a visit. Plus the academy is just a really cool place with an aquarium, rainforest, and little exhibits.

Elena, next time you go to a potluck try this if you don’t know how to cook. It’s a really good hors d’oeuvre that people like.. Get a little brioche bread , Put a sliced tomato, a basil leaf, and a slice of mozzarella and a little bit of balsamic vinegar on it. These make tasty little Caprice bite-sized snacks for before dinner .

Mak should totally move to Michigan! She would love it here. I have lived on the West Coast and been through an earthquake too. I agree that they are scary/unsettling. At least with a tornado, we usually have a warning and can prepare. We do get tornadoes occasionally in Michigan. But, it’s a beautiful state. There are rock climbing opportunities near Grand Rapids, and lots of other outdoor activities too. Ann Arbor is also an awesome place to live and has a strong, supportive queer community. We also have potlucks on the regular. 😉 I’m going with 32 for Ashley’s number.

I live in Guatemala Mak, plenty of earthquakes here. Yes, they're very scary. Best suggestion I have is to live on the ground floor (a house) so you can get out of the building quickly. Also pack a bag to grab without having to think about it. NO way I'd want to be in a high-rise!

Alayna, vegan caesar salad is doomed to fail. You need egg in caesar salad to keep the dressing together. You were doomed. Well, maybe if you put the dressing on just before serving, it would hold together for a little bit. But avoiding separation without eggs as an emulsifier is tricky business, and I really doubt even the best vegan caesar dressing wouldn’t EVER separate. A greens salad with a vinaigrette is what you should bring. Some fruits and nuts in there. I would add some cheese, but obviously that’s not vegan. And you know to add the vinaigrette when you’re there, but the reason for this one is because over time it will break down and brown more delicate leaves like arugula and you don’t want that. And if there’s ever too much liquid at the bottom, honestly dude, just drain it in the sink and pretend it didn’t happen. Cook’s secret. ;) It’s not your fault! You were misled by whatever recipe you followed. I believe you’d do well next time.

Or depending on the answers, will make the panic way worse and be more reason to move to the woods. ¯⁠\⁠_⁠(⁠ツ⁠)⁠_⁠/⁠¯ A final suggestion for exposure therapy, you could ask your gf to randomly surprise shake you like baby while enthusiastically saying "EaRThhQuUaAKee"! To both get acclimated to shaking & that the playful silliness of it may pavlov yourself into less panic during a real quake!
