@@thethirdbill There's something called "the blue tree project" where you paint a dead tree blue as a "blue lease on life" if you've lost someone to suicide. It was started in Australia if I'm correct. It's been a while since I looked into it, but I think that's what it's referencing. Looking into it a little more, it looks like it's used as encouragement to speak up when your mental health deteriorates and you aren't ok.

Dead girls is one of my favourite songs and I always love how much meaning Penelope puts into her lyrics

Same here. It reminds me of so many cases like rorochan_1999 and the girls who idolize her and want to be like her. Okada Yukiko, Nakaikiaka, even Bianca Devins to a certain degree. There’s so many and we see it everyday.
@Ivory813 жыл бұрын
@@LooDoesStuff you read my mind! I’ve always associated that song with Roro-chan and everything she went through. Even down to it saying how much they want to be like the people on their phone, she wanted to be legendary like the peoples he seen and would do anything to get there. It’s so disgusting to see how people talk about her after she has passed.
@LooDoesStuff3 жыл бұрын
@@Ivory81 yeah, especially because nowadays there’s so many copycats who want to be like her because they think that everyone will love you when you’re dead. It’s so sad. These people need help. So many young impressionable girls idolizing her and wanting to be just like her because they want the attention (I don’t mean it in a derogatory way, they probably don’t get the attention they need at home or from a mental health professional) and want to be loved. I always think about it when listening to some sentences from the song like “I wanna be a dead girl like the rest, dead girls are the best”. Crazy how much hate this ep, and Penelope in general is getting. I, personally, do not like Self Care and I understated the criticism of It but literally every single song off the ep is being bombarded with comments about how terrible of a musician Penelope is. I love Penelope Scott's music. This EP dropping was a surprise but definitely an awesome one. Something I personally like about her stuff is that she definitely has a background in computer science or game design/music and it shows, like naming her last album/ep public void and a lot of the lyrics and sounds in her songs. Also her songs are just an entire mood. PS, Orla Gartland recently released her debut album, Woman on the Internet, and it's *really* good. I'd totally recommend it and her music.

I love Penelope Scott's songs😍 And here is the reason why: She is making me express my feelings like no other artist can do. I love her chaotic energy and makes life more valuable. It may not be the most typical and pleasing songs, but they are emotional and provoking. And that’s what I love about her songs. It makes me reflect on life. I like that she is saying things straight and are harsh. It somehow makes me see the world as less complicated and less pointless. And last words, she is a good storyteller.

I’m so glad to see someone actually analysing self care! I tend to listen to a musician for like a week to a month at a time, forget about them, and then come back a few months to a year later, so I’m only just getting around to listening to hazards, and I was so frustrated that the only response to it seems to be complaining about the beat, and not at all engaging with what the song is getting across. you had a more positive interpretation of the song than I did, and it was really nice to hear someone else’s thoughts on this song! You should react to Elliott Smith. He made songs about his struggles with drug addiction, alcoholism, and depression in the late 90s. His music is genuinely soul crushing. His best song (in my opinion) is Between the Bars. I don't want to spoil too much, but it isn't about a girl. Sadly, Elliott committed suicide in the early 2000s. He was a deeply disturbed person, and his music was his outlet. He sadly never got the mental help he needed. Bill, I'd really appreciate if you'd react to this guy.
