Thanks for the great video. I'm suffering from insomnia for years and was dependent on medication. Recently I'm trying to give up the meds and treat in by CBT. I will watch all of your videos to get help. You are explaining it so easy and understandable. Thank you 😊

Hey there thanks for the great video ! What you've mentioned from 6:58 onwards is exactly what im going theough! I don't have insomnia but last night i really tried hard to sleep because i needed it to perform well in sports today. I knew not to put pressure on falling asleep and not try to hard but as you said my concious mind snapped into monitoring mode. I had like 7 moments where i was almost gone and then the concious mind brought me back because it realised i almost did it. Result: 2 Hours of sleep tonight. I would love to hear advice from you on how to not be that self concious regarding sleep. Its seems like an automatic process. And even when you try to let go, you really dont.

Great content. Thank u! Can you please do a video about dreaming? What’s normal, etc. My dreams wake me up and have such interrupted sleep patterns due to it. Is that normal? The first half of my night is fine but after 2 am it sucks to sleep I guess because I’m spending more time in REM cycles?
@PutInsomniaToBed

Hi Vivi, yes we get more of our REM (dream) sleep in the second half of the night, so you're more apt to be disturbed by dreams in the early morning to when you wake up. What's "normal" for dreams is a hard question to answer, as dreams are not understood that well yet by sleep scientists. Dreams, by their nature, are strange and illogical because they are, at least in part, random firings of your subconscious mind. This is why they can be so bizarre and illogical. But, if they are waking you up consistently, this can come from at least a couple things: 1) REM rebound, caused by withdrawal from alcohol and other drugs that interfere with REM sleep; 2) stress or anxiety in your daily life that's coming out in your dreams/sleep at night. I'll plan on doing a video on this in the next couple weeks to elaborate.

Great videos again!! When I only get a couple of hours a sleep, I still get up and follow a normal schedule. Do you think that's helpful? Not to let insomnia ruin your life Thank you

Yes, 100%. You definitely want to address the insomnia so you can resolve it, but why you're doing that you need to live your life as best you can, even on little or no sleep. This will help you overcome insomnia and not let it take over your life.

Thank you for the video🙏 How much time approx does the recovery path from an insomnia (that lasted 4 years) take?
@PutInsomniaToBed

It's different for each person and the different variables that can be in place (type of insomnia, severity, medication, stressors going on in your life, etc.), but on average it takes about 8-20 weeks for most people. to get past the insomnia. Then the sleep continues to improve over time if you maintain good sleep habits.

If I’m experiencing very poor sleep, should I put all my weight lifting on hold till my sleep improves ?

It depends on how intense it is and if your body has the energy to do it. Exercise is fine, but just like when you have a cold you shouldn't over exert yourself when you have insomnia.

Your brain is looking for helpful solutions to the sleep problem, so bravo to you! For myself I found that NO sleep hygiene intervention worked. Now I am trying CBT-I and ACT, after nearly one year of sleepless nights. Wish me luck…! 🍀
