When they can't attack the content/argument, they'll attack the person i.e. Ad-Hominem fallacy. They don't like Voddie bc he doesn't agree with the popular spun narrative, so they'll find any way to slander him. God bless you, Founder's Ministries team for addressing straight from the source!

For anyone equating the scenario with Ed Litton… got to say I would love to hear from Ed Litton about the charges brought to him, besides the short, false and sad statement Ed made about one sermon, not the others dozens or hundreds. I appreciate that Voddie clearly said he mistakenly read his own words as Delgado’s in speaking on the subject. He made a mistake and has recognized it as it has been brought to him, repented of it and apologized to the person to which he attributed the words to. This is what it looks like to take responsibility for a mistake and also defend yourself where necessary. The text of the book is definitely a formatting issue, but, Voddie’s commentary is in *_italics_* which does separate it from Delgado’s words. The charges being raised with regard to the book are weak, the issue was the speaking mistake, which Voddie acknowledged.
@Leadeshipcoach
@Leadeshipcoach 2 жыл бұрын
Agreed. I read the article… I then checked Voddie’s book and listened to Voddie’s sermon. It was clear to me that Voddie made a mistake in the sermon and quoted his own words as belonging to Delgado ( I also have Delgado’s book). I said as much to my wife. It could have been clearer in the book… however in the book Delgado’s quote is marked off by quote marks. In my opinion the writer of the article ( McDurmon) just didn’t agree with or like Voddie’s book and easily found things to nit pick in order to try and discredit the book.

Joel McDurmon has identified typological non-conformity (or awkwardness) as a mortal sin. He also seems to regard the accurate paraphrasing for the purpose of summarizing the ideas of a public intellectual as heretical. McDurmon seems to have no understanding of editing and explanatory writing and seems to not respect Voddie Baucham for having different opinions from himself, perhaps because he thinks Baucham has a biology-based obligation to adopt Gramscian Marxism. I find unethical behavior on the part of McDurmon this sad, petty, and malicious.

The intended audience for Bro. Voddie's writing is not the "academic" snobs that are interested in a properly formatted, by academic standards, written work. If Bro. Voddie was submitting this work as a thesis for a graduate degree Mr. M's critisism might be relevant. However, in the forum (the lay public) presented, Mr. M's talk is pure sophistry.

This whole thing reminds me of the only useful thing I learned as I earned what I now know is a completely useless English degree. Every English professor had a preferred style. This one hates the passive voice; the next one hates paragraphs that are longer than 10 sentences; the next one loves to see 45 direct quotes on the first page, etc. I learned early in the semester who hated what, and I carefully avoided the pet peeves. In hindsight, they were probably training me to be a good little sheep. They almost got me. There is a distinct difference between blatant plagiarism and oversights in editing. If Joel can't see the difference, he should find a new gig.

You guys have to get Voddie to respond to Bradley Mason as well. His comments on KB's podcast, Southside Rabbi, have been repeated as THE rebuttal to enable all of Voddie's words over the last 10 years to be dismissed. They (Southside Rabbi) have a 4 part series on CRT, from what would be a Curtis Woodsian perspective--it is an analytical tool. Mason critiquing Fault Lines is all of "Part 2" in their series. I say invite KB and Ameen to the event Voddie is at Sept 12-13th. They're in St. Petersburg, FL soooo... It's time to shut down the analytical tool garbage through debate!

Good video. The thing I think I liked most what toward the end with Tom brings to light what really needs to be considered and remembered the most. What's really going on with all these accusations? What's the brouhaha really all about and who/what is behind it? I would just point out that Christians MUST be VERY careful about assigning motives. One surefire way that you can ALWAYS tell when somebody is walking & speaking in the Flesh and not of the Spirit is when they make claims & statements that ONLY God can make. Climbing up on their self-built throne exercising faux-omniscience from their self-imposed god-complex is ALWAYS a sign that one is at the very least in the Flesh and at the worst not saved at all. However, that said and without taking anything away from it, we can KNOW that this is all part of the spiritual warfare that is constantly being waged and with enough questions asked can get to a point where we can determine the Truth in a claim, the tactics and weapons used in making the claim, and from there determine by God's Word whether it is of Him or not. We may never be able to know whether something not of God is the Flesh, the World, or The Enemy but we can know whether it is of God or not.

And, if I recall correctly, a few days after the book was released was the time when he was taken to emergency treatment for major heart failure. That he would even attempt to write something so instructive when he was 1. Running a university, 2. on a major speaking tour, and 3. seriously physically compromised only shows the depth of his concern for the church. Formatting, structure, quotes and details that wouldn't have gotten by when he was well are easily mistaken when you are challenged on so many levels. Any 'slips' he made, and his gracious response to the baseless allegations, only reinforce to me that he is a class act.

The gospel, which appears to be a little secular story, is truly a mystery to be known only revelation. In the 16th chapter of John we are told: “I came out from the Father and came into the world. Again I leave the world and I return to the Father.” In these four short phrases we find the pre-existence of Christ, his incarnation, his death, and his ascension. I could put this in the first person, plural sense and say: “We came out from the Father” for we are told in the 1st chapter of Ephesians: “He chose us in him before the foundation of the world.” So all of us were chosen in him. That is why I can say, “We came out from the Father and came into the world. Again we are leaving the world and are going to the Father.”

Took me a minute to figure out what was really going on here. This is really not about a misquote. It's really not even about Voddie making a minor mistake that doesn't change or really even affect at all the context or the major principal behind Voddie's book. After reading tons of comments on non Christian social media pages regarding this "plagiarism" it is starting to become clear that there is a group of people that are going to pick Voddie apart, even try to attack his character. Why? Because Voddie defines and explains CRT, BLM, and even the social justice movement from a Biblical perspective and in doing so virtually destroys their position. This is major to them, just as the Bible, the inerrant word of God is our Holy Scripture in the Christian community all these political/social movements are looked upon by these people as their holy scripture, their god and Fault Lines just dealt their scriptures a mighty blow. Voddie, you already know that these people are not your friends, these people will not allow your book to be a testimony against their scripture, against their god particularly at the university level!! I had hoped Voddie that there wouldn't be so much push back. I had hoped that maybe now you could start focusing on what's really important regarding racism. Racism does exist as you have pointed out. Racism does need to be addressed by someone such as yourself that has experienced racism from both perspectives. We now need to find ways to have open dialogs. Racism isn't looked at in the same way in the Christian community as it is in the world, however you have had experience from both sides of the fence. Shame people would rather nit pick than move forward. God Bless

Sounds like someone is trying to poke some imaginary holes in Voddies fantastic book, just so that people who are already predisposed to disagree with Voddie and won’t ever read the book for themselves will have ammunition to hate it without reading it.

I think Lindsay's point is dead on, note this article from the WP titled, *Voddie Baucham’s publisher defends Fault Lines against plagiarism claims* Now one would expect the article to give face time to the title by providing evidence related to plagiarism. Instead we find this small mention: "McDurmon also alleges Baucham plagiarized the work of atheist author and anti-CRT activist James Lindsay." To be fair the publisher is addressed and quoted in response to the plagiarism charge, but again we'd expect that the article would demonstrate how Baucham plagiarized, but it didn't. The rest of the article is about the error related to the misquote, which is not plagiarism btw. Later in an attempt to discredit the Christian worldview, or at least I assume the author thinks of as religious fundamentalism, emphasis is given to plagiarism charges against Litton and crew. How do these folks get journalism degrees? www.washingtonpost.com/religion/voddie-bauchams-publisher-defends-fault-lines-against-plagiarism-claims/2021/08/03/dd387998-f4aa-11eb-a636-18cac59a98dc_story.html

I would really hope that no Christian would comment here in support of any party without examining the evidence first. Christians have a worldview that appreciates evidence, right? It falls in the same category with science and reason.

The problem is, they *are* direct quotes from Delgado’s book, laid alongside Voddie’s comments in the same paragraph. Some of Voddie’s material is set off by italics, some is set off by quotation marks, and some is not distinguished at all from the quoted material. The material that came from James Lindsay - even though Lindsay is not offended, and even though a few extra words were tossed in - retains Lindsay’s unique manner of expression. It is also not an idea to be found in the portion of Delgado’s book that is cited, being the one instance of attribution I would agree with Joel misrepresents Delgado’s book, at least where cited. This section bears numerous signs of recklessness, as if it did not matter to Voddie who said what, and it casts great doubt upon the quality of the rest of the book.
