It's like Darius and Keyvan/Kayvon, they're originally Persian names but became popular Black names. We Persians pronounce it differently because it's from Ancient Farsi (near Avestan language) but both have the same origin.

Im a ginger, red hair, white as hell, but i too have a "black name"; n my last name looks forgien. When im at the Dr.s and they come out to call u back, i know when its me: they attempt the first name and then i can see them thinking "F it, ill use the last name"...nope. deep sigh of frustration😂, i just stand up n say "thats me"😂

I have a similar problem , with the pronunciation of my last name. I usually let them struggle for a few seconds before I make "that" hand gesture as I encourage them to at least "try" to say it. After nearly 60 years, I have heard so many different ways my last name can be mangled.

Yeah, I'm not sure I'd have known where Persia was in spite of my love for cats and rugs before reading the Bible and taking an interest. Additionally, I wasn't even making a point about age. My point was to only associate it with it's current name because you couldn't look at a map in 2023 and find Persia. It isn't as obvious as a Syrian identity might have been if we were referencing something today by its ancient name calling something or someone Assyrian isn't as likely to throw as many people for a loop. My whole idea was to help others orientate themselves to this guy without them having to look it up. But thanks for trying to negate it and all. 👍

My uncle has the same name but our family romanticized it as Keivan instead of K-von so when I was a kid and went to one of this guy's shows I was super confused as to why his name was spelled differently even though it's the same name.

My sister's name is sapphire. And ppl ask her how she got a black name. The answer is simple. At 3 yrs old I put a hole in my face and had 57 stitches. My mom met a girl at the hospital with that name and so my mom named her sapphire 2 months later when she was born
