At this stage, I’d say Nylander. Marner I feel like reached his peak early on and hasn’t really improved that much the past couple of years. Marner also plays with Matthew’s which inflates his stats.

🎯 Marner has the most lucrative spot/circumstances of any winger in the NHL. And has for most of his career. Alot of points by being a setup guy without the responsibilities of playing center, highest TOI, top PP time (never taken off), playing with the best scorer in the world (prior to that with other 40+ goal scorer) other line mates do the physical work, always on ice in last few minutes against an empty net, etc. The only question is how many of his points are inflated. Minimum 20-25 points. Marner is likely a 25g-45a-70 point player under normal top line winger circumstances. Still very, very good. But not at all in the elite category of players getting the biggest contracts. An 8 X 8.5M-9.5M would be fair value . I’m aware other desperate teams would probably overpay for him in FA, but he’d probably be on a bottom feeder and his point totals would only be more exposed to reality.

@chevelle1 lmfao. Marner was on 100 point pace playing with bozak, the amount of idiots in this market that keep shooting down Marner is insane. Marner is a top 20 player to ever play the game.
@HimmyN

It's also the other way around. Matthews scores so many because he plays with one of the best playmakers in history, open your eyes. The fact you went on a rant pretending to know what you're talking about is the funniest thing I've ever seen.

@@HimmyNI’m not even a Leafs fan. You bring up a good point about maybe Marner is the reason Matthews scores like he does. But I’d point out while Domi was filling in for him when injured, he was racking up the assists too. But I’ll concede that Marner is a great reg season assist guy. Playoff hockey: He averages 1 goal per PO series, doesn’t drive a line, doesn’t “take over” games, avoids heavy contact and while subjective, he doesn’t have that will imposing intensity that playoff successful players have. You could get another perimeter, soft skilled $8M winger in his spot and there’d be essentially no drop off in the playoffs. And his demand to squeeze every last nickel out of cap during his last contract only puts him in the spotlight for this type of criticism. He demanded to be paid as a franchise player who can carry his team on his back when needed. He’s not that. Edit: For Playoffs, I’d take a Sam Bennett over Marner and have $6M in cap space too.

O dog is all over the place with Marner. My god man, make up your mind. Always feel the need to defend him and super quick to back track when he criticize him. The Ontario boys will forever stick together. Probably played a round with Paul and felt the need to get back in the Marner’s good graces. Weirdo move Odog.

Hmm lets see; WN- 603GP 217G- 311A for total of 528 points. MM- 576GP 194G-445A for a total 639P. Also MM is outstanding on the pk. So clearly MM is a better player. Most non-haters and sensible people would agree. I simply don't understand Bryan's hate on for the great Mitch. It's ridiculous just look at the freaking stats. BTW, MM is not responsible for playoff failures. The management and lousy coaching are to blame. They had no goalie and terrible defense. Funny because Bryan usually lets stats do the talking. Not with MM tho for some reason.

Great example of Marner’s inflated point totals d/t having the most lucrative job/playing circumstances of any winger league wide. Aside from that, playoff hockey is SO much more than PP and EN assists. He averages 1 goal per series. I’d take a Sam Bennett over Marner in the playoffs.

@@chevelle1 Nylander scores more goals in the playoffs but defensively, Marner is the better two-way forward. In career playoffs, with similar games played and pt totals, Nylander is +1 and Marner is +10. If anything, Nylander is more of a PP merchant. I love both players though.

It was so dumb signing Willy for 11.5 when he was the hottest. It was very predictable he would cool off a bit. The price kept going up 10.5 11 11.5. Second half of the season he was on a 70 point pace after his 120 point pace signing.

Contracts at this level are all ego. The difference of 2-3 million per year is not that significant based on career earnings and endorsements by the time his career is over. He could be beloved in the city and make 10+ million, but will push past 12. To be clear, I don't fault the player, they should try and make as much money as possible in their career.

I’d put Marner as the second line Center. Matthews and Marner are considered the most reliable defensive forwards. So why not have your 3 headed dragon with Matthews Marner and Tavares down the middle. Throw Domi and Knies on Matthews line..Nylander and maybe Mcmann on the second and patches and Jarnkrok or Robinson on the 3rd.
