Replacing the tub surround on my bathtub. Note: I re-rendered this video in AVI format and re-posted it. KZbin seems to have a problem processing videos in WMV format, as what the first video was in.

Good to see average DIY "Joe" plumbers. I can relate to you. I figure if you can do it, so can I. Thanks for uploading.

Hats off to you for a well- developed, relevant video. You slowed down and explained the most important points, and fast forwarded during the minutiae..Muchas gracias😃

I had an even worse surround-- really flimsy stuff with a seam in the middle of the back wall. Not only did it turn yellow, but it was glued to printed plywood panels that had murals of swans & ducks and that was over more plywood and that was over tongue and groove boards. The printed panel on the back wall rotted from water damage. The plywood behind that was also water damaged. The boards behind that had old termite damage. Even one of the studs was eaten at. Some of the studs didn't go all the way up, others were a bunch of 2x4s stacked on top of one another. There's tongue and groove on the other side holding it all together. It's a hot mess. At least my surround came off easily. The plywood panels it was attached to were loose so I pulled them off. Hardest part was removing the tub spout and then removing the tongue and groove boards. I have a chip just like that on my cast iron tub. Tenants did that to it. I still need to patch that. I hope the tub got reglazed.

It's not that the rivets on your jeans aren't fascinating, it's just that I'd rather see up higher, where the work you're doing is..

@727JeffN You're doing a great job my friend (:-> I replaced a tub surround about 5 years ago and it was hideous behind the old one. The water had wicked up into the drywall so it was a total demo job. They have water resistant drywall and other rubberized stuff that is a big improvement now. Looking forward to the next one!

Wow. That was a lot of work. I feel for you on the tub scrape. I had some tenants that put a gouge like that in my cast iron tub and I was pissed off. I think in order to meet building/plumbing codes you now have to use some sort of mold-resistance material behind the surround. Something like cementboard. I wonder if Wonderboard Lite can be used... Plywood was just not designed to handle the moisture. But obviously, you were on a budget and hindsight is 20/20. I hope the surround you installed is still holding up. Thanks for sharing the video. I do wonder, is the adhesive the type that responds to heat? Would using a heat gun or hairdryer to warm it have done anything to help with removal? I'm thinking not, but its something I was thinking about.

Thanx for this video. My project is very much like yours, Maybe a little better camera positioning next time, though. Anyway, I've subscribed to your channel, and I will keep checking out your other videos. Good job, Jeff.

@jenzeppelin About 2 years ago i replaced the laundry tub in our basement with a plastic one, and one day i decided to use Comet to get the grease stains out of the tub from working on my car. Big mistake! The grease stains got out, but the Comet left green stains which i had to scrub out. Pain in the ass. Luckily it was not an acrylic finish bathtub otherwise i would of ruined it. My mom uses Scrubbing Bubbles to clean the tub.
