She said she wanted to dismantle systems of oppression, and that's only going to read as an attack on American society/ western culture to you if you think America/the west is defined by those oppressive systems. John's points about Tucker fueling white nationalism in America is spot on. My mother used to be a very open-minded person. She viewed all people as equal (while in high school, she dated a black boy, even against her parents' wishes) and she was very empathetic towards marginalized groups. But over the last three to four years my mother has been watching Tucker and Fox News, and has become more obsessed and gone deeper and deeper down the dark alt-right paths. Now that Tucker has been fired from Fox, my mom and her husband are more obsessed with him than ever before, watching his show on Twitter every day and feasting upon every word he says. All of the segments I've ever seen from this show follow the same repetitive format: present some "argumentation" and "facts" for about 10 seconds, then quickly follow these up with a snarky quip (which themselves overwhelmingly take the form of complete non-sequitur or otherwise absurd metaphor) before any rational processing of the preceding argument can take place in the mind of the viewer. Further telling is that the only 'beats' or mental pauses in the show's pacing exist solely to highlight the approving laughter or applause of the studio audience. Repeat this basic formula without variation 20-40 times in a row and you have one of the 12-20 minute 'segments' that form the backbone of the show. The end effect is (obviously) not to deliver information, but rather to literally teach the viewers -- on a subconscious level -- to mentally associate derisive laughter with any person or opinion that is at odds with the narrative's take on the chosen issue. And it accomplishes this by maintaining a strict adherence to a roughly 20-second cycle in which a stimulus is presented, and a response is cued. This is the sense in which the show is fundamentally hypnotic in effect -- even more so than its precursors in the genre (Daily Show, Colbert, etc). To my mind, Oliver's show is representative of the media's increasing mastery of the methodologies of mass conditioning; in fact it is almost such a perfect technical accomplishment that I would almost have to admire it on technical grounds, which moreover is in the hands of the entirely wrong people.
@AinSoph733 жыл бұрын
@@MisterCovek I’ll give you this - Oliver is usually not funny. Let me be clear - I’m not saying he’s not always very funny; he is generally not funny at all. I think he recognizes how depressing his subject matter and delivery is and is now doing it this way intentionally. Millions of people watch including us so he clearly knows what he’s doing. Interesting that you put “argumentation” and “facts” in quotes considering how much of his arguing is done using video clips of the person in question. Which is it? literally teach? or do something on a subconscious level? Your terms offset each other. The show is hypnotic? Mate, its downright boring. The only reason I could easily make it through all 20+ minutes of this clip is because I can’t stand Tucker Carlson. I’ve frequently turned to other videos when Oliver/Stewart start with the dick jokes and other toilet/porn humor. Don’t get me started on how unfunny and cringeworthy Trevor Noah is. Colbert is by far the most talented and natural of anyone to step foot on the set of The Daily Show.

If you really want to imagine what Tucker wouldve done in a galaxy far far away let's go - he's a jedi that thinks only jedi should be allowed on his planet, but jedi shouldn't pay for the world's upkeep and they should abandon any jedi in need financially or medically. Every Ewok can and should own a gun so maybe next time they can shoot first. If you accidentally bone your sister she has to have the baby. If you don't agree with him about what jedi rules the planet, he'll lie about the voting droids, be sued by the voting druids, then be fired by the network to save some money when he admits to wrongdoing.

They also have the "largest army". That's just stuff that happens when your country makes up almost a fifth of the world population. That said, the twelve nuclear aircraft carriers of the US, compared to two chinese ones and superior aircraft design means that the US will likely continue to be the dominant naval power for the foreseeable future. It's really funny, whenever I see military analysis it usually boils down to "if Chinese military expenditure continues to grow exactly like in the past 20 years without any change in rate and US military expenditure stagnates at current levels, China will catch up to the US in 50 years". So even in the very best case scenario for China, by the time they catch up to the US, Tucker Carlson will be dead by old age.

There are a lot of reasons to dislike Tucker Carlson. The racism, sexism, classism, etc. But for me, the most annoying thing is that he is a significant factor in why I feel the need keep my gun close at night. That may sound like a ridiculous opinion but for context: there was a cross burning within 10 minutes of my home last year and I think it is pretty clear that the type of outrage he has been cultivating via his show over the years has played a significant role in the worsening of public safety and the rise of racism in the US.

Also have you looked at the paychecks for the top BLM leaders, they are making bank off of it and there tax filing shows a major of there money going into people pockets then helping anyone hence why they are under investagation. wasnt this suppose to help people, not buy the top leaders cool cars and what not. sounds like they are just doing it all over again.
