Songs and music brings out emotions in the audiences. It is part of story telling. Indians have age old tradition of folk music, dances and nautanki and know that music and songs are integral to involve the audiences in the drama playing out. Besides, they also have entertainment value.

Agree Rick. The original poetry in rhyme creates multifold effect. This was quite simple yet very effective lines, and in the Ghazal it is an iconic one in Indian history.
