The moment when my jaw just dropped. Before that, all the way, starting with a Quarry, the game raised the degree of horror and the feeling of "I shouldn't be here." But this place just became the final chord, and you say: -"Holy f*****g s**t..."

This location absolutely is a shock to experience, and as you stare into the distance, one can't help but feel an overwhelming sense of ominous foreboding; Quarry is simply the tip of the iceberg. This place feels a lot like trespassing, like you're not supposed to be here at all; the curious question to ask is 'why does the manual direct us to go here in the first place'?... Hmmm..

definitely, when you see the whole part of the zigurat and read the history of the civilization that lived before the events of TUNIC, we definitely need a prequel that shows us how that civilization fell and how the bluce that our little fox broke by completing the manual.

A HOUSE FOR STRANGE GODS, EXPOSED BY EROSION AND GREED . The Ziggrat may hold the truths of the world, but it also exposes the nature of this world... but nothing here can be called natural.

this soundtrack actually is in the ost! it's number 39, "The Ones Who Came Before Us"... although this song is pretty dynamic, changing when you're moving or approaching the scavenger, so the OST version is essentially a mix. also, not having been here in-game for a while... jeez, some of those sounds are *weird*.

Thank you for pointing that out-- I did originally write that it was in the OST and that it was 'What They Kept From Us'-- are you sure it's 'The Ones Who Came Before Us'? That one seems to be the first Heir fight theme and I don't hear any similarities in Track 39, but if you are positive it's that track, then I'll go ahead and update the description. :) Yeah, this place is... definitely spooky. The ominous vibe it gives off is nothing short of foreboding.

I've never played this game nor heard about this game prior to watching this video yet I keep being drawn to it because of the ambiance. Is anyone willing to explain the lore behind this location to me?

Wow, a rare user who doesn't know of TUNIC. Interesting! Welcome to here. If you plan to play TUNIC at any point, I encourage you to play it completely blind with no spoilers whatsoever; this game is phenomenal and is dependent on your lack of information and knowledge to have the best experience possible. If you never plan to play it and don't care about spoilers, then I will go ahead and say so now; please do not read further if you plan to play this game; this comment will still be here when you get back. --- The truth of the matter is: we don't know either. But, we have a lot of good ideas of what it is! Within TUNIC, the game world is practically trapped in a state of endless cycling, and the world cannot progress until a cycle is broken. The cycle involves a Ruin Seeker (that is, the fox in the video) and another mysterious fox trapped in a cage. To unlock the cage, you require three coloured hexagon keys, and one of them is located here, just before a boss battle. This entire area is at the very bottom of the Ziggurat, which is a strange, ominous monolith which, in the game's own words, 'houses old gods within'. Throughout the journey, you will find that these strange, rectangular prisms, and when you 'pray' to them, they activate, release power, and then permanently function for the rest of the game. You discover through the Ziggurat that these strange rectangular prisms actually are sarcophagi, permanently sapping the power from a strange, fox-like being much like yourself, though decayed and wicked looking. As you wander through the Ziggurat, it becomes very clear that this is a factory of these strange things-- and just down below, there is a whole vault of trapped souls, unable to escape. ... Pretty morbid, isn't it?
