I've been using MHD OTS +bolt-ons on my m235i for over a year with zero issues. Power band is great and it's such an easy to use software package. The wireless dongle made it so much better.

Great build! This is in general for anyone thinking about it, something to consider when running open filter is intake temps and ram air. My aftermarket box on F30 335i was creating a ram air effect with the vent pulling air right from outside and had top vents for creating a pressure difference. After I took the box off (sounds amazing) I lost some air flow and was getting intake temp warnings when sitting long time at idle since it was sucking in that hot engine air and the box wasn't shielding it. This is why places like Dinan insist on close box design and so does the shop that builds BMW and Porsches near me. Anyway, just food for thought.

Yeah open sounds better but you will be sucking hot air from the engine bay, especially on slow traffic

I have mhd on my n55 , sent some logs to mhd and pureboost ended up doing custom tune for me for free, my electronic wastegate was doing so strange things being a manual transmission after changing gear, great tuning platform MHD, big thanks to MHD and PUREBOOST from me too they rock

Good vid with excellent info. One thing I'd like to note here is that the Payn BM3 tune was done over a pretty short time frame (couple of weeks?) all on the street IIRC. The MHD tunes I'm sure have a lot more time and tweaks invested into them on both the street and on the dyno with multiple tuners fine tuning along the way, which is why they are so clean. This is not a knock on either IMO, but a compliment to both for different reasons!

We worked the payn tune on dyno as well as street actually. However, the Mhd tunes have had more time for development for sure. The bootmod3 ots maps however, zero excuse for those. Lol

I like the video - great idea! I am just a bit sceptival on the smooth bit - you can smooth out the graph in the software depending on your settings. You can make the bm3 graph look the same as the mhd which clearly looks like it has been smoothened more. If not, great job, but looks a bit too perfect. Either way nic power gain :)

Have you thought about ecutek with a flex fuel setup? It's nice putting in any mixture you want at the pump and having the system adjust for it on the fly.

You don’t need ecutek for flex fuel. Many companies make flex fuel systems. Bm3 and Mhd will have proprietary systems soon enough

You say not to relock your tune because you will have to do a bench unlock. What if your DME was tuneable from the factory. If you lock the DME do you need to bench unlock even if the DME was tuneable via OBD from the factory??

Yes you will still need to bench unlock if the DME hasn’t been unlocked. Just because it’s tuneable and unlockable doesn’t mean the DME is unlocked.

Great video this was much needed i have been doing research on this for the past month to decide. I have a 2018 340i and was looking into bootmod3 vs MHD, as my car has a b58 same as the supra would the OTS maps be the same and you recommend MHD?

Well, our engines are both b58s but there are significant performance upgrades in the supras b58. Specifically the fueling. Hpfp in supra is much better. As far as tunes go, I cannot speak from experience because I don’t have a 340. But I have many friends who do that run both platforms and are happy. Really it just comes down to the user preference.

There's an a91 edition but there's not very may of them. Most 2021 are still a90, 2022 will also be a90. A91 is just the special edition, and if you can't tell if you have one or not you don't have one.
