Thanks. I saw a few kits on sale now. Greddy and Crawford. They all go for over 4k. Reading 7 pounds boost is best for this engine since it's such a high compression at 12.5 to 1. I'll consider this more in spring. I love my car but The new 15 mustang gt 5.0l 430 hp with big brembos in performance pack looks amazing. Sorry about your engine. I'm sure that was out of pocket. Hopefully I'll see you at the track.
@demonikelectronik10 жыл бұрын
Oh it was out of pocket, but not as bad as one might think since I did all the work myself. I also made about half the money back parting out the old engine. As far as kits go, the greddy is overpriced for what it is, and the crawford cant really be used to it's full potential without a built bottom end. Check out p&l, they have a great kit at a great price. It really makes the car, with better suspension and larger tires to balance out the power the car still has that great balaced, predictable at the limit character, but even more fun =) As far as the mustang goes, we'll see if it's any good, it's looking promising, but there's still all the weight. Hopefully I'll see you at the track, I'm pretty much dine for the year, I've burned through my last set of tires, and my brake calipers are toast, but I'll be at autobahn and ra quite a bit next year with more power, sti brakes, and more aero inprovements.

What did you do for oil cooling? i have a full blown cooler mounted under the passenger headlight, with the foglight cover open to allow airflow. Big hole in the fender liner to allow hot air exit too. Still, I saw oil temps hit 240+ on straight-heavy tracks. Road america has more long straights than most tracks in the midwest. Any insight for oil cooling?
@demonikelectronik5 жыл бұрын
Havent had this car for quite some time now but I had the forrester water/oil puck cooler and a custom air/oil cooler mounted in the nose. 240 is nothing to worry about. This car saw 280+ often. Just put fresh oil in and then change it after a track day.

Are their rules for if/when you should pass? What happens if some one wants to trade paint and you are in your daily driver? Looks fun!
@demonikelectronik9 жыл бұрын
As you notice there's many times where I could pass but get on the brakes and stay behind. Depending on the class there is designated areas of the track mainly on straights. The higher the class the more lax the passing rules. Point bys are strongly encouraged. Because this isn't really a competitive event trading paint with someone is very unlikely, especially on purpose. Overall it's just a bunch of guys/gals trying to see what their cars can do and improving their abilities.

bad ass! Love you passing those Porsches and NSXs Gave that black Vette a run for it's money until that long straight. I want to run that 4 mile track in my BRZ N/A tune w headers but it's such a fast track it screams for a turbo. What turbo brand can you recommend to be the best quality?
@demonikelectronik9 жыл бұрын
Sorry missed your comment, that black vette was an absolute monster tt car with a great driver too. As far as turbo kits, I'd go with p&l, full blown, or revolutions rp400. All great kits. a nice large oil cooler is also pretty much a must.

I have a P&L kit with e85 on My BRZ. It's a monster! How often do you drive at RA? I'll be up there with LAPS this year.
@demonikelectronik8 жыл бұрын
John Zicco I haven't owned the brz for a year or so now. i ended up going into wheel to wheel racing this year in a formula mazda. have fun at ra, just keep an eye on oil temps and watch out for brake issues. turbo 86s overwhelm the stock brakes pretty quickly up at ra.

Full blown kit? Thats what it sounds like to me! just curious though... Personally looking at the SBD 400x kit.
@demonikelectronik7 жыл бұрын
AJ Zimmer actually it's a fa20club kit that was modified to change maf location and some other odds and ends. The car was built in early 2013 and it was one of the only kits available. Total junk that took quite a bit of work to be reliable and function properly. I'll say that was one of the worst experiences with a business I've ever had haha. The sbd kit is not bad, especially for the money, personally i like the p&l and the full blown kits a little more.
@13KawiRider137 жыл бұрын
Ya I haven't heard anything good about the fa20 kit. But like you said at the time their weren't many choices!
@DavydB6 жыл бұрын
AJ Zimmer there is another kit called the 500x, which puts about 15whp more than the 400x does, with a fuel pump and injectors and running on e85 ethanol, you will be easily kicking 400 whp on the 500x turbo kit!!!

Your flying. I own a brz also. Tracked it at autobaun and grattan It's needs more hp. Who did install of turbo? How much hp and $? Thanks
@demonikelectronik10 жыл бұрын
I did the install myself, I think total cost was something around 4500 with pump, injectors, and ecutek cable/license. It's an early fa20club kit, from before anyone knew better. Id stay far away from them, the poor fa20club tune already cost me an engine, and the kit is a bit poorly designed. The car is currently tuned by james martin (hri) and in this video about 280whp @ 9psi, and nakes about 320 @12 psi. If you're planning to go turbo and want someone in the area to do the install and tuning id recommend either p&l, or fullblown. Both shops do good work. I think p&l comes in at under 5k for full install and tuning.

Yeah bad line into the turn, then understeer, then oversteer over the rumble strips lol. the brakes? not so good, stock braking system with upgraded pads, lines and rotors. no major fade but major heat issues. Sti brembos are going on the car this year.
@robjapan10 жыл бұрын
Might be a dumb question.. Did you attach the turbo yourself after you bought it? If so, what kind of an effect did it have (other than making it quicker I mean!) No need for extra air intake? Do you have any idea why Subaru don't do a turbo edition of the BRZ as a standard model?
@demonikelectronik10 жыл бұрын
robjapan yes it is an aftermarket turbo system, there is well over two dozen various kits available along with at least a half dozen supercharger options. obviously the effects are more power, the tuning done to the car smoothed the powerband out (no torque dip at 3.5k rpm), but also it shifted some weight to the nose of the car, and slightly raised the overall center of gravity. as far as a factory turbo, subaru's statement was that was not enough room to install a turbo, which may be a possibility since an oem will need much better packaging and clearance than an aftermarket setup. also i think the cost would bump the car into too high of a price category for it to make sense to purchase..
@ktelecominc9 жыл бұрын
it could be will effect the sale of the STI, becuase people don't just throw money in to get a turbo on a car, they will likely upboost on a car that will turbo. That is what I think, it took me a few months of thinking to put turbo on my brz.
@ravenstylea29 жыл бұрын
demonikelectronik but you bought the car and turbo'd it anyway. You probably would have bought the car with a turbo - if it came that way. Would have made sense then. Best thing is, with an OEM turbo, you wouldn't have voided your warranty.
@demonikelectronik9 жыл бұрын
ravenstylea2 but you have to understand, I'm not the average consumer. I was looking forward to this car since they announced the concept. Being a fan of the old Celica supra, ae86, rx7, and also being a Subaru driver and enthusiast, I was going to buy this car no matter what, if they did a proper lightweight rwd sports car. I feel like the average consumer would look at the specs of a turbo 86, compared to a mustang gt, and for mid 30s to 40 grand would pic the mustang. Not to mention at that price you're tapping on the door of a gently used Cayman. That was the other car I was looking at btw.
@ravenstylea29 жыл бұрын
The import crowd doesn't go for Mustangs even if they are the same price. Maybe some, but not the majority. I swear, probably the only reason I might get an Ecoboost stang is because the Scion/BRZ doesn't make enough power, and I don't want the headache of buying one knowing I wouldn't be truly satisfied unless i turbocharged it and - me being a noob- having to take it to the tuner for an issue that then arises.

Hey DGurney, i'm thinking about turboing my FRS. Any heating issues at the track? reliability issues? Any advice?
@demonikelectronik8 жыл бұрын
reliability was good. make sure you have supporting mods and you're not pushing anything to it a limit. so, bigger fuel pump, bigger injectors (to lower duty cycle) etc. temps were a battle, oil temps were really hard to reign in. ended up upgrading radiator, thermostat, all lines, then Forrester puck water/oil oil cooler then on top of that a Mocal thermostatic plate running to a 19 row mishimoto air/oil cooler. differential temps were pretty crazy high too, so that would have been the next cooling mod, diff and trans coolers.
@PatrickAlvarez118 жыл бұрын
+DGurney got it! Gotta focus on cooling cooling cooling & support mods. I wanted so more power for the track, 280-300whp look like it gets the job done. Which coils/wheels you running?
@demonikelectronik8 жыл бұрын
isc coils, they were pretty crappy actually. I'd recommend rce tarmac 2s, wasn't a ton of good options out yet when I was building this car. The wheels were some knock offs of the 57extreme. 9.5x18 rear and 8x18 front.
@demonikelectronik8 жыл бұрын
power wise I think 350 would be perfect, it needed just a tiny bit more to keep up with the porsches on straights.
@PatrickAlvarez118 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah, I currently have RCE yellow springs and they work great! I am now debating on whether I keep the FRS or swap to the new BRZ and star fresh. Cause of BRZ master race and all, lol. I used to live Infront of a golf course so I have Knicks and bumps everywhere cause of the golf balls. Things are rattling like crazy inside, I much prefer the interior of the BRZ vs the FRS. I want to stay with the platform,.. Just think it's time to swap. I haven't seen any other car I'd rather get... Maybe the STI.

@demonikelectronik5 жыл бұрын
@@connorbeckmann2981 with the amount of tire under the car the sway bars make a difference. Plus rear is adjustable. The engine or suspension tuning? The suspension i installed, aligned and corner balanced myself the engibe tuning was done by James Martin, probably the best tuner for the platform out there. And thanks, i try. I haven't had that car in years, actually moved on to wheel to wheel formula cars. Check out my channel, there's some more recent RA stuff on there.

Gabriel Dalcomune I have a water/oil heat exchanger and an upgraded radiator, thermostat, hoses, then coolant with wetter. Also, the car is ran on 0w-40. Trust me there's been a few times where I've looked at the temp gauge and seen 325-340, but that's not the normal. Turbos are crap and there cheap this car gets much more fun with a nice Supercharger
@demonikelectronik8 жыл бұрын
why is that? you don't make as much power, tuning is harder because of tip in knock, you have parasitic loss, and for high power the belt drive becomes slippy and unreliable. With modern ball bearing turbos, there is zero advantage to running a supercharger.
@inwoodplace8 жыл бұрын
friend of mine had sprintex supercharge on his 86 and it wasn't that good ..finally he put a greddy turbo kit on...much better.
