Yeah…. And now there are documentary’s talking about how fillings are toxic. The silver ones leak mercury and the white ones are loaded with BPA. Some EX dentists are even going as far as saying that root canals are rotten teeth with a crown and that a good bit are infected (we just can’t feel it because they took the nerve pulp and filled it) but the root is slowly rotting. Anyway, multiple ex dentist have said the root canals and fillings are responsible for multiple body Cs☠️

having original teeth irreversibly shaven down so much for cosmetic reasons is incomprehensible to me, especially because most veneers look fake and not natural. even people with money and access to the best in business do not get pleasing results, most famously miley cirus. have your teeth professionally cleaned regularly and try braces before messing them up forever.

My friend's back teeth were shaved down for braces. You don't notice it on a superficial level, but it's not healthy. When she started seeing a new orthodontist he was horrified. Told her her previous orthodontist was a hack. I don't remember if he is still practicing, I'm under the impression he wasn't. Regardless, I sincerely hope his license was revoked I'm not trying to discourage anyone from getting braces, even though her back teeth were shaved down, they are nowhere near the damage of crowns. Closer to the wear and tear of someone 15 years older than her. It just really sucks for her

The cost to go to another country, get veneers, and then potentially have to go back and get them redone (not to mention the once a decade replacement) ends up costing more than simply getting whitening and braces done in both the UK and Canada. I had braces as a teen, and without insurance, the total cost, including all diagnostics, molding, and retainers, would've been under $7000 - spread out over 2 years. If people have the disposable income to pay a $3000 lump sum for veneers, they definitely should have the finances to afford braces, invisalign, or other, less invasive treatments if paid month to month

At one point I wanted to get them whitened, and an extended family member who is a dentist said he would NEVER do that, and actually begged me to not seek it elsewhere either. I recently completed a dental procedure in the UK, which resulted in a total cost of £8,000. My dentist informed me that individuals who travel abroad to receive dental care are not routinely treated for any underlying conditions. I underwent x-rays and scans to assess my bone structure, and I was required to meet with the hygienist post-procedure. Antibiotics and a special mouthwash were administered immediately after the procedure. I would rather pay the UK prices than risk my health abroad.

My well fit crown got a tiny cavity at the margin where the crown met the original tooth. Usually the gum covers it but this plaque worked its way in. I didn't see my dentist for a year and the tiny plaque caused a huge cavity under the crown. I was lucky to be able to get it removed, the tooth cleaned and repaired with a new crown. If they had to drill much more I would have needed implants. Crowns and veneers aren't a one and done all the time! Regular checkups are a must! (I might have gotten some details wrong. I'm not a dentist. Just someone who now sees her dentist more than she would like)

I’m a prosthodontist, a specialist in this area, and I swear I spend half my day talking people out of this treatment because it’s so destructive. It’s a viable option for SOME people but for most there are much less invasive options. I think part of the issue is that people want the instant gratification of walking out with their ‘perfect’ smile when really if they just got some orthodontic treatment and some tooth whitening they could have a far safer and long lasting result. Even if the initial treatment is half the cost of orthodontic treatment, you need to factor in replacing the restorations every 10-20 years. All restorations fail eventually. It’s just a matter of time. And the skill of the practitioner.

I've had serious teeth issues in my life and the thought of going through something this intensive, risky, and permanent over looks of all things is pure insanity to me. edit: as I watch the video it seems a big part of the problem is people not being told by the dentist exactly what the procedure entails, probably precisely to not risk losing clients. it's not the patients' failing either because ultimately we're supposed to be able to trust medical professionals with this stuff since they (should) know better than us. the entire situation is horrible honestly,

Speaking as someone who’s gotten crowns for structural reasons, don’t ruin your natural teeth unless it is your very last option. My adult teeth had hardly any enamel on them which made that not only structurally weak but also very sensitive. And there was so much discussion and preplanning that went into getting the crowns. And while I’m so happy with the look of them and not having to worry about cracking a tooth eating some cereal (because unfortunately that did happen) I wish it wasn’t something that I had to do to save my teeth from breaking down. Your teeth are so important and once they’re ruined there is no going back. And one sign of a good prosthodontist and technician is the way they can make crowns mimic real teeth specifically by not having them look perfect or having that opaque, flat, “toilet bowl white” look.

I'm a dentist. Thank you for pointing out that veneers and crowns are different things, they are not interchangeable terms. Veneers - less prep, front of tooth is shaved down. Crown - more prep, tooth drilled to that peg shape. The prep will have different thicknesses depending on the material of the veneer/ crown. These treatments do have their merits in certain circumstances, however patients should have a full examination beforehand to assess the dental health (teeth, gums, bone underneath), medical history (certain conditions and meds can affect the mouth), and the social history (smoking, alcohol etc can affect healing and longevity). Your oral hygiene habits should be checked - even if you get the perfect restoration placed by the world's best dentist, if you don't remove plaque by brushing/ flossing then you will still get issues like decay and infection. If you want better aesthetics there are so many alternatives/ less invasive treatments to explore first - whitening, composite bonding, ortho treatment, microabrasion etc. Please do your research and ask your dentist to explain everything to you. If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is!! Don't cheap out on your health

I am nearly at the final stage of having my full implants top and bottom. It's has been a long process for me as I wanted it to be successful not instant. Botched prior dental work, medication, illness and press on veneers left me no other option but to remove them all and have either dentures or implants. I researched and chose implants, I had suffered enough with the depression it caused me and found the most amazing surgeon and surgery, I had all removed in the chair with mild sedation. I required bone grafting but in all other areas the implant screws were installed. I had temp dentures and the bonus of masks being worn I could hide behind the mask. I wasn't going to rush the process so I allowed the maximum time for healing before starting the temp process. My dentist was actually grateful for this. The bone grafting area was left for 12 months and when the last 2 implants were put in, he actually sent the bone off for studying as he said it's the best he had ever seen. I have had temps for a year and a half, had minimal issues (slight pain if they get loose, but a quick fix), he is very impressed they have lasted this long. I have no issues eating anything but did actually finally crack one plate on a chip but was replaced the next day. My final porcelain ones will be in by Christmas. I will not mention the cost as it is very expensive but when I see all the start of the art equipment they use, their experience and further studies they do to offer amazing solutions and on-site laboratory it is worth it. He messages me personally, checking in to see how I am has made this process worth every cent. I have 8 implants for the top plate and 6 for my bottom plate and have not had any major issues at all. I did think about travelling abroad from Australia but after reading too many horror stories, I opted for quality treatment at home. Yes I might be paying for it long into the future. I will never regret my decision and will be forever eternally grateful that I can smile again and eat what I like. I feel blessed to have had an amazing team on this journey with the follow up care being right here at home.

Anything that moves your teeth or changes their shape can cause incredible damage if there is already a tiny problem lurking underneath. My older sister got invisilines when she shouldn't have because her dentist was dishonest and said it would be safe for her even though it was not. An abscess formed from a small infection under her teeth when the invisilines began to move the teeth and the bacteria was given more vacant space to grow. It became incredibly painful and she had to endure dental surgery that was very expensive. Luckily she threatened the clinic with lawsuit so they agreed to pay for the repair work to her mouth. That's because she didn't leave the country but did it here in Canada and was able to seek proper help when it went really wrong. Your mouth is so important! DON'T CHEAP OUT ON ANYTHING FOR YOUR MOUTH!!!!

My dentist told me a huge problem with these Invisalign knockoffs (the ones you order from tv ads without having to see a dentist/ orthodontist) is that they claim to move your teeth faster and cheaper, and they will, but they realign your teeth _too_ fast and it'll cause them to become so loose that they eventually fall out 😳

This is such a horrible trend. I had to get a crown years ago for a broken tooth and went to very reputable dentists. It still got infected *10 years later* and I lost the tooth entirely. I can’t imagine choosing to do this every tooth in my head.
@queencrimson9604
@queencrimson9604 Ай бұрын
Exactly. Even good dentists say infections can still happen so it’s not always the dentists fault. What many who get turkey teeth don’t know is that they have to clean their crowned teeth VERY thoroughly so just brushing 2x a day is not enough. They have to clean the edges of the crowns very well so that the bacteria won’t get underneath the crown and that on idk 20 (?) crowns for the rest of their lives..

Turkish dentist here, When you fly to another country to get all of your teeth done and not knowing what the procedure is is beyond stupidity. All of the complications you talked about are normal in dentistry actually, but when I do even one filling I do check ups every six months to see the current situation. So if you’re having a major surgery, you better have your doctor near you. Turkey teeth may be cheap but stupidity is very costly.

I showed this video to my dentist friend. He is very aware of "turkey teeth" and the ethical concerns around them. He pointed out that bacteria and plaque don't go "undetected" for 5 years. A more logical reason could be lack of good oral hygiene or small space in the crown which should be visible on Xray (or both). Part of the reason some patients may experience negative outcomes down the line after such invasive procedures stems from lack of maintenance (i.e. brushing, flossing, regular cleanings, etc) because crowns, for example, require greater oral care than normal. Had those Turkey patients been aware of what exactly they were getting into, though, perhaps the outcome could have been different. Btw, zirconia is a typical material for crowns. And yes, if he gave a 20 year old a full set of crowns without a damn good medical reason, then he, too, could have his license suspended. Good dentists should use the least invasive treatment needed to best treat patient concerns and educate their patients about dental procedures and treatments before proceeding.

Love Island and so many other reality shows like it, in the UK and elsewhere. In the US there’s a set of twin sisters, Darcy and Stacy, from the 90 Day Fiancé series who had a whole segment filmed of them in Turkey. They got their teeth done and a ton of other cosmetic surgery. It’s sad to see because they were really beautiful but now they seem to be on some unending quest to “fix” this or that but it always looks worse somehow. I don’t even know how many times they’ve gone to Turkey for their work, but at least a few times I think. I don’t watch anymore so I’m not sure. I feel like the cast members in general always get a “glow up” after their season airs, so it’s not just the twins but a lot of reality cast members. I don’t even really care if people get stuff done and it makes them happy and stuff, but I feel like cosmetic surgery is the last place you should be searching for a bargain. They’d be better off finding board certified professionals who know what they’re doing and don’t cause irreparable damage. That’s true no matter where you’re getting work done.

When it came time to have my denture made I had a choice of a natural look or full hollywood white glam teeth. I went with natural, even asked them to make it with a small gap in the front teeth like I had before. I just wanted to look like I had my natural teeth still, and for the denture to function properly as well. Like I get having bad teeth is a huge confidence drainer, but there's nothing quite like messing up your teeth to the point you no longer have them to give you a sharp smack of reality. The horror of giving someone a medication, without explaining what it is for, what it does, and why we prescribe it is so scary. There is no medication commonly used in dentistry that is dangerous enough to be lethal to such young, healthy people in a typical dose. My heart bleeds for them and their families. While we're on the subject: if you're having tooth or gum pain, what I'd recommend is making a mouthwash that is 150ml hot water, 1tbsp salt, and 1tsp clove powder. Salt reduces swelling and clove is both an antiseptic (helps with infection) and an analgesic (reduces pain). Let it brew for 10-15 minutes, then strain and split in half; use one half in the morning and one in the evening every day until you are able to get to a dentist. But the dentist is the most important part of this prescription!

These stories are heartbreaking, four years ago at the age of sixty I had cosmetic dentistry to my front teeth carried out as I had not been happy with them for years. I did so much research and it’s so worrying that these people didn’t know how invasive the work is. I’m absolutely delighted with the results, it was totally pain free and the care and aftercare were terrific but at £6,000 for treatment on six teeth I can understand the attraction of getting it done for a fraction of the price abroad, I seriously cannot imagine having all of your teeth done at the same time 😬

I find it so scary having your normal perfectly fine teeth shaved down to have 'perfect' teeth. I'd rather just get Invisalign to straighten them and have a whitening treatment. I trust my dentist (and dental therapist) implicitly and when we have discussed treatments he is totally against this and he specialises in and teaches cosmetic dentistry.

I think those bright white teeth look so fake and horrible. And especially on older people. Teeth naturally discolour as you age. I do not understand why they make the teeth so so white, and look so fake for that person.

I live in Arkansas, have my own horror story that left me without my teeth as well. The dentist said I needed all my teeth removed at once. The dentures they left me with after 3! fittings were still to large and made me constantly gag. I absolutely can not wear them.

My sister is an office manager for a dental clinic in Arkansas (she might have continued her education, idk we haven’t spoken in four years) and I remember her telling me about SO MANY PEOPLE getting all of their teeth pulled at once there. Like…WHY?!?! This is how we get stereotypes, folks! Telling me NONE of the teeth could be saved? Be so for real.

I'd never go to another country for dental work. I have heard that the government are looking into dental prices and veterinarian prices in the UK because I think a lot are charging more than they should be. One implant can cost £2,500 and if you need a bone graft, that is an extra £500 😮 for one implant 🙈

It’s hard to believe when people claim they had no idea what the procedure entailed. You went as far as traveling internationally but didn’t research it? English is used in business globally, and there are plenty of free translation resources. It feels more like a way to dodge responsibility than a genuine excuse. The death: The confusion on the death report seems to stem from differentiating between the actual cause of death and the underlying causative factors. My guess is they were given the medication at doses intended for anxiety, but when combined with alcohol or other substances, it can depress cardio and respiratory functions-similar to an anesthetic dose where mechanical ventilation would be needed to maintain breathing.

What terrifies me is the other plastic surgery stories I've heard. U work at the airport and I've had people that have had gastric bands, tummy tucks and breast augmentation and been discharged and allowed to fly the next day. They look visibly in pain. The worst story I have heard is a breast augmentation that ended up being organ harvested.

It's $1600 + in Canada for a crown. Every dentist I've had has always been very particular about the process. I would never go cheap when it comes to my health. I understand not all people can afford it, but my company has a great dental plan. Canada also pays for dental if you are on assistance or disability. So sorry for these people who went through that.

ugh this makes me physically sick. I might need dental bonding due to an ED I struggled with from early teens to now and I have been so anxious about my next appointment. How people can happily shave their teeth off blows my mind, but it’s also a testament to how brainwashed we are my iPhone face (I’m a victim too😭) and how far people will go.

I got veneers on my front four teeth for free in South Korea in 2011. I was teaching English out there, and I occasionally wrote for an English language magazine who asked me to write an article on cosmetic dentistry as part of a brand deal with a clinic in Seoul. I was reluctant as although I hated my teeth and desperately wanted them fixed, I knew they’d shave the enamel off my natural teeth and that my veneers would eventually need replacing, but I decided to go for it. I loved them. They looked really natural and have lasted well, but I’ve had them almost 15 years now, and they’re stained around the edges. I can’t afford to get them replaced (I’m now disabled and have limited capability for work, plus I’m a part-time masters student), and I was considering going to Turkey or Romania to get them replaced (not that I can currently afford either), but these horror stories have put me off. Edited to add I just remembered that I met two Turkish dentists last year who seemed legit. They travel to the UK to do in person consultations with patients, so they charge a bit more.

Also, I know the turkey dental people were shady with how they advertised these as "veneers" when they aren't veneers, but for the people who knew they were getting crowns when they went: how did they not know that your teeth get shaved down for crowns? Is the information on dental health not accessible in the UK or did people just not look up what they were getting? (Only for the people who knew they were getting crowns but didn't know what crowns were).

If your teeth are healthy, don't get them shaved down for veneers 😭 that looked like he got a root canal the way they cut down his teeth. I got root canals and that's basically how my mouth looked before getting the new teeth on top. I paid like 4-5k USD for 4 root canals.

As someone who has yellow-tinted crowded teeth, I looked into veneers. But the shaving down healthy teeth scares me so much. I'm 28, had one small fitting and a small root canal (no crown needed), nothing else done except teenage braces which helped my top teeth but not the bottom. Aside from not being able to afford it, I also have a genetic condition that means local anesthetic doesn't really work for me and my jaw dislocates constantly. I'm not messing with my teeth, it is far too scary

Yellow tinted teeth are completely normal and healthy. It’s sad that we’ve now reached a point where the only acceptable color is white. But I get it, it’s hard to not give in to the pressures. Have you looked into teeth whitening at the dentist? Home whitening usually doesn’t work well.

Yep I have EDS too! It’s effected my teeth and I have a broken tooth right now that needs removing. My dentist said she could do a bridge but it was silly to file down the 2 healthy teeth on each side to do this, so an implant is my best option. The thought of having the other two teeth filed down sounded so horrible 😮

@PaulinePhilliban

Here's the thing. If you have any additional your teeth, crowns, veneers, bridges, orthodontics etc, YOU need to maintain them. Also, what you are displaying here are CROWNS NOT VENEERS. Do not confuse the two! Veneers can be added with minimal destruction to teeth. Crowns require more space. Turkey teeth encourage destruction of healthy teeth for vanity.

US citizen. I have a mouthful of silver fillings that are over 25 years old. One dentist even apologized to me eight years ago, saying that he wished he could replace all of them, but it would be "morally" wrong. I took it as meaning "insurance-wise" wrong. While my teeth look white and healthy when I smile, all the silver/amalgam fillings are decaying, and I had an instance where the filling broke so badly that I had to pull off the highway and spit out half of my tooth in a parking lot. It left me with an exposed nerve. I had to pay $1300 to cover the rebuilding of enough tooth to even put a crown on it. I just paid $850 for a crown in July, and I need two more, at least. While I'm grateful to be able to pay for one or two crowns a year, I don't know why I'm being held financially responsible for antiquated methods that everyone knows no longer works.
