No, those tuners have presets for stock 5.3 engine it decodes the already preset vin number in the ECM.

Your build is nice. I'm very interested in the things your doing to your truck. I have a 2000 Chevy Tahoe that has the 5.3 lm7 and I was wondering if I should swap it out for the 6.0. I want a reliable high performance fun to drive daily. Maybe turbo it one day. . Summit Racing sells a 450hp 420 torque 5.3 lm7. But I'm not sure if I should do that. It's $3,600 . Kinda expensive so I'm doing my homework on my decision. Any recommendations? Oh I subscribed. I even saw your upgrading to the 4l80 nice.

I use that same trans cooler on my 93 with a 4L60e. I'm about to put a 6L LQ4 into a 2003 with the 4L60E. Going to upgrade to that cooler and fingers crossed.

Nice gotta rebuild 6.0 again yank it out throw 1 in im rebuilding now. Maybe swap it in to 72 cutlass or just be a stand by engine. Playing around with the builds seeing what can be improved. Had a couple 1st build mistakes.

You can easily turn that 6.0 to a 6.2 with some pistons, then put some ls3 heads on with a good cam for some good Powa!! 😎

But was it really worth it? It sounds so similar, that if you've got a good running 5.3L in your truck, just upgrade that instead. Cause if you factor in upgrading it, what does it boil down to - the difference in power that 41 cubic inches brings?

If you've already done a lot of mods to your truck but you feel it's down on power this is very easy way to get it. Swapping trucks and starting from scratch is the long road. Some will add a cam and turbo to their 5.3 but for those like me who actually tow with our trucks, their is no replacement for displacement. A bigger block equates to low end torque and that's the grunt you need to pull up and over hills. The difference between the 5.3 in my Avalanche and the 6.2 in my Escalade EXT is astonishing. Guess which one I use for towing?

Hey I was wondering if you mite know this off hand. I'm swapping a 05 6.0l into my 07 suburban and doing as you said change all sensors on the 6.0 to the 5.3 ones and replace bad ones. but do I have to piggyback the cam position sensor from the front to the one in the back for the 6.0 🤷‍♂️ and leave the one on front or just wire it straight to it in the back. Reluctor wheel box only works one way. Not both. Let’s you run a 58x wheel with a 24x ecu.

Nice set up, if you upgrade injectors what direction you go, My set up is 08 silverado 1500 swap a ly6 6.0 speed engineer ss complete dual exhaust Air intake stage 2 btr cam 4l60e transmission, I think we need a better tune and 4l80 with stall Probably injectors if you can orient me on the right direction ill will appreciate it

The factory 4l60e from the 5.3 is good enough and won't have a shorter life. It will depend on how you drive. Street Wise 2500 rpm and below the Trans won't see much power. Factory 5.3 Trans is the same as the 6.0 Trans unless you go 4l80e

Going from a 09 gen IV 4.8 to a gen IV 6.0. If I take the ecu from the 6.0 can avoid the retuning. I currently have headers and an intake on the 4.8. So not planning on doing anything to the 6.0 besides bolt ons and maybe a rering kit

Get a 01-06 6.0. The early 6.0 have a different length crank snout. They don’t bolt up. If the 6.0 has aluminum heads you are good.

Can you help me figure out my issue for my 5.3 with 317 heads? I rebuilt the entire motor and took the heads off my 6.0 lq4 and put them on my new 5.3, but now it runs weaker and i have a knock sensor code and o2 sensor code and its burning way too much fuel. A 1/4 tank will burn off in 50 miles easy. I think i lost compression and hp and i need a bigger cam. Please give me some feedback so i can figure out the next steps.

You need to go back to either 706 or 862 heads. 317s aren’t really ideal for a stock 5.3 to much air flow and lower compression than the smaller cc of the 706 and 862 heads

I kept all the 5.3 stuff. It’s all the same. Just needs a tune. As long as it’s the same generation, for example a Gen 3 6.0 replacing a Gen 3 5.3
