Actually, it's the tangets in the longer shows that brings the most useful and interesting information. It's also what sets TPS apart from all the other pedal-based KZbin-channels. We DO like pedals and knowledge about gear, but we mostly watch it because of you two chuckle-heads and the banter.

Great show as ever! As someone who fairly religiously watches every episode of TPS, I’d say that I do prefer the long shows personally - I love the “subject matter” part of each episode but I think the main attraction is actually not the subject matter but rather the shared enthusiasm for gear/music which you guys have with your viewers. The sense I get when watching the longer shows is that we’re kind of hanging out despite not being in the same room if that makes sense! Not to say that this isn’t the case with shorter episodes too - but I don’t struggle at all to watch the longer ones :)

Ditto to loving the long episodes. The sheer joy that Dan and Mick have for guitar is both entertaining and motivating, and the knowledge they drop even through their most out-there tangents is welcome, too!

I actually prefer the longer episodes when the topic warrants the time. What you guys do better and differently than all of the other gear channels is that you really go deep on a topic and explore things from a lot of different angles. There are plenty of other options out there for people who want quick and trivial videos on the basics. TPS is the graduate school of the guitar gear world.

So Mick and Dan are doing these shows for free....I don't think any of us actually have any right to feel miffed about an occasional shorter half hour weekly show. Support the guys by purchasing something from their store, clicking on an affiliate link, popping a few quid on Patreon or watching one of the adverts through to the end.

Usually I would agree, I also like one hour-ish podcasts. I don't want to state what's right or wrong, I think that's highly subjective. However, what I observe on myself during the longer shows is that I sometimes ask myself "Wait, what is this show about again?" or I'd grab my phone and do something else there meanwhile. I'd leave it up to Dan and Mick and what they have to say, it's their show, if it's a topic they are really passionate about, let them talk and wander down the rabbit whole.

When I saw the title of the video, the Deco is what came to mind. It's basically what the pedal is designed for. In "Bounce" mode you can get some cool stereo effects, or use Wide-Stereo mode for some great stereo double-tracked sounds. What I like about the Deco though is that the "Wobble" control isn't your standard LFO shape that has a predictable back-and-forth sound, but is more random (in a pleasing way). So even if you already have chorus or flange, the Deco is a somewhat different flavour.

Great info. I like a mix in the time formats. What's important is that is that you both feel good about what you're doing while maximizing the expertise you share. Want do something that won't sustain a long show--shoot it out quickly. If you've got something that you know will take a while, or just get surprised by some rabbit hole in a planned simple show--go for it. Many of us will happily follow.

“Horses for courses” I reckon on video length, a hour long video on this topic would have been a struggle unless other topics or “hacks” were included but this short length was perfect for such a narrow topic. However trying to compress some of the other videos with broader topics/ multiple pedals into a short video wouldn’t work as too much great stuff would be lost - we need all the details, playing examples and most of all the stories and tangents. The only time I struggle to get through a long video is if it is a topic that I know I’m not interested in or wouldn’t use - and that’s perfectly fine and doesn’t bother me in the slightest . We can’t all like everything and you can’t please everyone all the time. Plenty of other people will love the videos that aren’t for me and vice versa, and I get so much great info from this channel that I’m sticking around no matter what format the videos are.

Hello Mick and Dan. I’m watching from Long Island, New York, home to an over abundance of great guitarists. Your show has kept me company through good times and through the very slow recovery from spinal surgery. Can you emphasize when we hear a 6L6/6V6 or an EL84/EL34 type amps. This is most important when you review distortion or fuzz pedals. Besides being incredible guitarists you both have wonderful personalities. I’ve never been to the UK, but my ancestry dates back to Camborne in Cornwall. Good health and fortune to you both.
I also prefer the longer shows, mostly for the friendly banter and tangents!

Very cool that you did a show on this. It was actually one of your older chorus-related videos that inspired me to try exactly this technique some time ago. I can't be bothered buying a chorus because it's not an effect I'm fond of, but I've been doing this trick with my delay pedal for a while now, whenever I need to play songs that have chorus or flange in them. Actually, my delay pedal doesn't have modulation, but even just the doubling effect is "good enough" to provide a decent substitute effect for those songs or those passages of songs.

No way! I have recently started playing around with my future factory, and wanted to copy the tone from Last Train Home. After looking through sweetwater for chorus pedals, I started wondering if my FF could act as a chorus pedal, which led me down to a rabbit hole through this channels' delay pedal videos to see any resource on how to tweak the settings to get a chorus sound out. That was just two days ago. What a weird coincidence seeing a notification for this video this morning! Cheers from Seattle! Love you guys!

Okay, now I'm cajoled into going down to learn more about my Amaze1... I constantly cycle through drives but have tended to leave always on pedals, including delay, at one setting and just get on with it. On the format, my 2 cents/tuppence are divided. Longer episodes have never seemed too long. I love them. I became a very loyal "regular viewer" on the usual format. This shorter one is lean and to the point. It's a good, focused, narrow topic informational episode. I suspect part of why it's good beyond just the information is because it's you guys and we know you. We have come to know you via the fuller, longer episodes. Mick, when you say, "Go on, then" or Dan, when you say, "Have a schwang, Michael" a small but important element of your friendship comes through and we all feel it. The information is invaluable. My board is a joy every day and that board is Because of you two. By chance, I met furniture maker James Krenov in a cafe and we talked. Afterward, he invited me up to the school shop and walked toward the cafe door. He turned, eyes sparkling, and said, "Enthusiasm is contagious!" I've never forgotten that. Your enthusiasm and joy and sense of fun are contagious. Sure, it's Because Tone but tone is just part of the overall feel. "Long" has never been too long. Fridays never come soon enough. Peace and Love, G

Viewers who complain about your videos being too long aren't true fans of the channel. You guys do what you do and don't worry about the complainers. You are awesome, and have been for a very long time. Also, it would've been hilarious if your video was about how to make your delay into a chorus or flange, but you need three delays to do it. You could've trolled people with an early April Fools on that one.

Interestingly enough, I've been finding more and more that for chorus sounds I'm liking having no delay, just vibrato in parallel.
@JacobH933 жыл бұрын
It’s funny how when you start it feels like there are thousands of effects. Then you learn some more and they get broken down into smaller groups. Overdrive reverb fuzz chorus etc. Then you learn a little more and there are really only 2 categories: gain and time based effects. I knew that modulation was based off of quick delays, but it’s nice seeing it in action and hearing what the actual delay times are for different modulation effects!

Great episode, can't be sad whenever there's Carbon Copy on the show. I had forgotten how it just makes everything nice when you turn it on. A Roland rack delay opened this world to me, because it was so old it didn't have memory, so it started at 0 ms every time, but the vibrato on the delay line was hardware knobs so always there. My favourite sounds were found in the between settings, somewhere around 10-20 ms where it wasn't quite clear which it was. But what for no obvious reason it also had a toggle button for sine and triangular wave, which made it so interesting sounding! I knew this theoretically, but I never connected it to being able to do this with stuff like Carbon Copy. Another mental block cleared! If only it had a depth control for modulation, you'd get so interesting vibrato mixes as well. Although I believe you can adjust the modulation with a trim pot inside?
