This week I am tackling another this to that challenge, by me turing a store bough grocery store cake into a elegant modern trendy fall wedding cake. The grocery store cake was iced in whipped buttercream icing and I am going to use that frosting to ice the bridal cake. This DIY wedding cake was so easy to make. Let's do this!

@@helenh20mo So True, As a beginner Baker I always make sure my cakes taste great and the also look amazing, Probably one of the reasons why I decided to go into the cake business was most bakers ( not all) don't care about the taste but they care more so about the decor but I believe it should be a balance of great tasting cake and a great cake design.IJS

I have always wanted to say that I love how she just goes straight into the video and it starts of with her going into it rather than the fluff at the beginning about what she is gonna do.. because it is already in the title. I would love to see a breakdown of the cost of materials and time. Like, you said $20 cake... was that for one or both? What was the cost of the flowers? How much time did you spend? Just curious how it compares to the bakery quote.

thats a great idea! judging from the looks of the flowers she used, they were not cheap, the flowers at Michaels are usually expensive.

That was definitely more than $20 for both of those cakes. The sheet cake was probably $25 and the round cake $20. That's why I started making my own 2 years ago. They cost too much and just look and taste generic. I’m guess they were a few days old so that's why she got them so cheap.

@@Jessa8891 usually grocery store cakes are a few weeks old at least, at Walmart a few months old. I work with some ladies that worked at various bakeries and we always laugh about people thinking a cake baked the afternoon before isn't fresh enough.

@@CS-06 i worked as a cake decorator at walmart and baskin-robbins both, and the sheet cakes you get from both are pre-made at a factory, frozen, then shipped to your local store where it's thawed before being decorated. once thawed theres a time limit before you have to throw it out due to it being too old and dry in the fridge - been years, but i think it was a few days or so if it's been iced (the icing helps protect it from losing moisture)

I would say 20 dollars was for one sheet cake and doesn't include the 7 dollar tub of whipped icing she normally additionally buys like she talked about in the beginning and doesn't include decorations or additional ingredients

It amazes me how much bakeries charge for the simplest cakes. My sisters wedding cake was an 8” and a 6” tiered plain white with a simple border and then she had the florist put real flowers on it. $250! (Plus flowers) When my wedding came around, it was a home made cake, and it was beautiful!

You should get 2 large metal food scrapers to help you have more control when moving cakes. They have been a life saver for me. The cake turned out beautiful and I bet it tasted delicious

This cake is gorgeous!!!! A quick and yummy filling- use heavy cream and any flavor instant pudding mix and a little milk and whip it like you would whipped cream. It makes a mousse like filling and it is soooooo good. You can also use peanut butter with powdered sugar with heavy cream and a little milk to do the same type of filling.

@@TheIcingArtist the measurements, I forgot to give them to you, for the large pkg is 1 1/2 cups heavy cream and 1/2 cup of milk. You can over beat it like whipping cream, and turn it into some pretty tasty but weird butter.
