I have slowly invested in building a hobbychop and have a EMCO maximat 10 with the mill head. This machine is quite expensive so i did not want to make mods on it. Bought a Chinese lathe with mill head like Mustie1 has. Changed motor to a thee phase and stronger since this one is my learning machine. Put on a Yskawa inverter and managed it to run as i wanted whit a pot and so on. This inverter is a bit overkill but i came over some cheap. Took some weeks to get it, the manual is like 150 pages .) I have also some heavy duty welds, grinding machines, plasma cutter winch i love. One thing i leaned. We mig weld with Co2 since it is cheap. But i wanted to weld stainless and googled welding SS with Co2 and got nearly no hits. I tried and works without problem. At least for home work. I build a SS grill. I build SS stuff for my boats and it works great with Co2. I have so much shit going on and want to start my own channel but the time is not enough. And i have not so much skill. I came ovér a rely cool milling machine wich i hope to get running soon. I have more tools than skill or time :) I buy when the price is right. :) But i want to learn and get the time....
@Rolingmetal
@Rolingmetal 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for a lovely comment. I also watch the mustie1 from time to time. Thought he had an old sheldon lathe with a shitload of drill chucks :) I never tried to weld SS but I have a small spool of that stuff. And you should be able to weld it with a normal CO2 gas according to what I read. Last time I bought a new cylinder they actually charged me for aragonite gas. It's somewhat more expensive but not twice. Lucky for me I caught their mistake :) Funny I actually also have a maximat 10 with mill. But it is not running, it need electrical work. I'll probably sell at some point. Maybe I should do a video about it before :) Good luck with your machining endeavours and maybe I'll see you around on youtube one day.

@@Rolingmetal I will not sell mine. It is in real good shape and i bought it like an investment. The price on them are ridiculous so try to fix the one you have. It should not be so hard to fix the electric. I have read that it was a lathe made for gunsmiths. I plan to make a revolver :) LOL... Boats and the stuff around it is a big interest of mune therefore the need of SS welding. I also hace a mig wich i aluwld with but it is hard. It builds a load of mtrl, and then i have to grind the form. But it eorks well for fixing proppellers and so. My next buy will be a ACDS tig. Had one, A miller but it was made 4 2 phase nd i did not have fuses enough. Sold it with profit though :)

@@Rolingmetal I would love if you made some vids about your maximat, plz. About Co2 i try to come over firefightingcylinders or what the name is. Winch is out of date. They are nearly free. Just hang them uppside down and make a adapter to the weld regulator. Tada! I also have dedicated cylinders and here is it the firefighting selling companies that reloads them much cheaper than ordinary gas companies.
@Rolingmetal
@Rolingmetal 4 жыл бұрын
Is the gas mixture for fire extinguishers the same as for welding. I believe there is a certain amount of inert gases (argon halon) in the CO2 I normaly use. and that is probably why you can use it for SS
@Rolingmetal
@Rolingmetal 4 жыл бұрын
Funny I actually got a revolver :) A family heirloom with a story. Maybe I should do a video about it :) Although I'm not really into guns. My maximat isn't in great shape but I did get it for a real good deal. Also a bit of an investment, better then keeping money on the bank. It's the model that has a cabinet with lots of drawers, I think it has a special name but I forgot.

Rolingmetal just so it’s clear you use the hacksaw with the chuck spinning. I often make a little grove so the hack saw starts exactly where I want it. It’s good if you can then turn the piece around and face off the saw marks. I like it better than a grinder. The other day I sawed through a 2” / 50mm bar in only a few minutes. Actually I did 4 of them one after the other and I was happy to get the last one finished. :)
