I learned SO DAMN MUCH about Blender through this tutorial. In particular I'm no longer intimidated by UV unwrapping - I had put off figuring it out because it seemed really complicated but you highlighted how simple it is by just doing it here. Now I understand how much time I've wasted trying to avoid it.

I want to mention for other newbies! I went back and duplicated more pebbles, but ran into a funny issue with the simulation as the pebbles collided with my water object. I went into Physics and clicked Fluid for the Water Object to get it to work properly again.

when I put the texture image and click do go to uv editing, my rock becomes pink and I can't see the image texture. Somebody help

Try going back and downloading the image in the highest resolution (4.4 MB). When I tried the 1.2 MB resolution, I also got the pink. Pink means Blender cannot find the image file.

I had some trouble with the fins on my fish - duplicating vertices for me seems to end up creating unwanted faces... which are perhaps not necessary to worry about for this rough sketch of a tetra, but it was bugging me! especially when I tried making a fancy guppy, which has a bit more fin detail. I noticed because it made strange effects when I shaded smooth, which I especially didnt want for a guppy tail. I ended up extruding vertices for some fins rather than duplicating,-- and for others, I merged vertices, deleted faces, flipped normals... I am a blender beginner, but it definitely seemed a bit too tedious for a good work flow. Is that something that should be ignored for quick work? Seems like whenever I encounter errors in my meshes, its because of duplication.

Two of the worst traps I fell into while learning Blender were obsessing over details that don't actually matter that much and trying to follow other people's workflows that just weren't good for me. I feel a greater sense of accomplishment when I manage to get a result that looks just as good as the teacher even though I barely actually followed the specific steps of the tutorial. If it's easier and faster for you to do something in a different way then just do it!
