StopTheFOMO, thanks for your detailed and passionate videos. I have been watching this LG G3 vs Samsung SC90/95 battle play out over KZbin over last few weeks. For non gamers, seems like the big question still is "will I miss out on the best viewing exp for Dolby Vision content with Samsungs" especially given the amount of Netflix, Apple TV etc content available. Your conclusion of HDR is brighter than Dolby Vision might not answer it actually. It seems like DV provides more detail while trying to maintain as much brightness as possible, whereas HDR starts losing some of the detail. So just apples to apples DV picture will be better. But that doesnt mean LG G3 is better TV. Seems like LG G3's big issue is lack of uniformity or those banding issues. QD-OLEDs dont exhibit that vertical banding and have much smoother color gradation. So it is really a choice between - Do you want Dolby Vision and Banding (G3) OR you want panel uniformity, better color volume but miss out on DV. I feel I will notice banding lot more than I will notice lack of the minor differences between DV and HDR. Hence for me the better compromise here is to avoid G3 and go for S90C. You can of course add the Sony A95L here which may be gives best of the both worlds but will cost significantly higher.

With how similarly they perform it‘s the gaming that makes the difference. G3: 120Hz, working HGiG, game mode can be calibrated S95C: 144Hz, broken HGiG, can not be fixed through HGiG, color-fringing can get noticeable on high-contrast edges in real content when you like to sit a little closer As a PC gamer I‘d love to have 144Hz as my VRR ceiling, but the disadvantages still outweigh the positives. I‘d go with the G3 no doubt. My G1 is still doing fine though, so I might wait another year and see if QD-OLED gets MLA next year or if LG can finally fix 120Hz gradation which still has visible banding in some scenes with no option to engage the smooth gradation option.

Finally, the comparison I have been waiting for, all this time. LG usually seems to be all-round good choice, but I am still hoping the QD-OLED tech would have something more to prove. @stopthefomo Жыл бұрын
the ONLY reason LG introduced MLA was because of QD-OLED. Everything you say about the flaws have to do with quality of life execution by S95B but QD-OLED image quality performance soundly defeated W-OLED. Having seen both 7 hour live streams G3 vs S95C. Both are very close. And for that reason, the ghosting and juttering or whatever it’s called is a lot less on the G3… on a bigger screen this is essential because it’s horrendous. Dolby vision or not. Get rid of the fomo and go for the G3. Same price. Maybe a little less colour accuracy or whatever but you won’t even know it because it’s gleaming. More tweekable settings which you will not bother with eventually but if you switch between you tube and a movie at least you have those options. Better up scaling because if you’re spending 3-5k on a tv you will upgrade in 5 years anyway. The overall decider for me is not the brightness or automatic dimming… it’s the more brilliant white and less ghosting / jitteriness. Colour accuracy is not the b all and end all on a bright screen. Right?

One of the biggest concerns you don't really cover is that whichever company..LG, Samsung, TLC, Sony etc. has an advantage with a superior technology ...if the customer service is bad, why would one want the aggravation or have to deal with it? For instance I have had a trouble free experience with LG for a smart tv, but terrible problems with Samsung reliability and customer service. In fact on one 55 inch Samsung a tech came to my home 3 times over 3 years and replaced multiple parts. In the end the problem still existed and I maxed out with the amount of money that the extended warranty company would spend to fix the 2+ years old tv. When I called Samsung (with all repair receipts) to get them to fix it, they told me it's out of warranty and there is nothing they could do??? Given that information why would I chose Samsung over another brand that is more reliable and offers better customer service? There are MANY considerations when buying a brand and the better tech or performance is just one.

@@AndrasMihalyi Thanks for the info. I did some research on the cost and it would cost me about 80 grand for an 80". Although I could afford it, it's just not cost effective when I can a 77" G3 for 4,500. Keep in mind when I wrote "cost is not an issue" I was referring to the cost differential between the more expensive Sony vs the other TV's. Also, there are no stores even remotely near me that carry Microleds, I would have travel a far distance or order it sight unseen. Just not worth the effort at this point in time.

don't listen to FOMO, he is VERY random with his TV suggestions, like he is hyping up shitty TV's like QNED and all, he can sell you a very mediocre TV with no regrets. The smart play is to buy whatever wins the two important Shootouts, one on Value Electronics and the other is Vincent's own Shootout on HDTVTests in September. The only realistic contenders this year are the Sony A95L and Panasonic MZ2004, those two will be the best TV's in 2023.

Would you recommend keeping the S95C's contrast at 42 for everything? I know RTINGS did contrast at 45. My biggest problem is the shadow detail just disappears in a brighter room. I've tried the shadow detail setting but that just made everything brighter, including highlights. Backing off on contrast actually seemed to pull up the shadow detail as well as tamping down some blown out highlights. But how far is too far when turning down the contrast? For reference, I'm using movie mode with dynamic tone mapping for placement in a room that has lots of windows but no direct sunlight on the TV (sun comes from behind so it's backlit at sunset which is also quite challenging). My reference disk is Frozen 2, don't know how you feel about that one, but I think it's a good one because the magic has tons of HDR pop, colors are super rich and saturated and there's lots of darker scenes that can be totally illegible if rendered wrong (like the opening scene's wallpaper in the room, or the cave scene with the song where you might not see any of the cave at all)

Looking for the answer for this too. Going with the s95c because of the better colors/image quality (my living room isn’t very bright). And i have a Samsung phone, so i get some extra features

@@Adidas_Altyn if your living room is pretty dark I think you'll love the S95C. Mine is bright, so I actually went with an A90J because the classic WOLEDs maintain perfect blacks even under ambient lighting and the A90J is arguably still the best non-MLA WOLED

The reasioning for DV is not image quality - its the support itself. Sometimes you have a video that only has DV metadata, and nothing else. Unfortunately, LG TV does not support DV with MKV format, making its DV support not complete in more than 50% of the times.

Is processing of low bit rate content “e.g macro blocking” an issue worth considering (or processing in general for that matter) even a consideration if you use an Apple TV 4K as a stream device and use its up scaling?

Shield is better at upscaling low bit rate content and honestly, you may not even notice it 95% of the time - I just had to point it out as it took me about 20 minutes to find content that was clearly different. Both TVs are excellent: I personally would get the S95C for HDR movie review purposes but recommend the G3 to my friends as I know their needs, and that 5 yr panel warranty is important for them.

I’m deciding between the 77in LG G2 for 2155 or the Samsung S95C for 2500. I don’t play games much, but I have a PS5 where I mostly play NBA 2k or Madden. I usually stream my content. Do I need Dolby Vision? Which one is a better TV/value? I want to keep the TV for at least 5 years. I also have an LG soundbar, but don’t let that be a factor.
@stopthefomo10 ай бұрын
Dolby Vision is a non-issue for sure. At 77” the Samsung S90C is identical to the S95C in image quality (S89C is BB special edition for $2K) with the only difference being the S95C has the One Connect Box so the frame is physically better built (for a premium). The S90C was my editor’s choice as the best TV in 2023 in both value and performance because the S95C had quality issues with its box.

If you want to keep the TV for 5 years you must get it with an extended warranty at Best Buy or Costco (it’s sold out there)

Hey everyone. I also have a question: It would be good to buy a Samsung HW-Q990B soundbar and install it with an LG65 G3 TV knowing the feature Q-Symphony not working for the LG 65 G3 TV or for any TV other than Samsung TVs.But I would like to know if there are other not working issues with the Samsung HW-Q990B soundbar and the LG 65 G3 TV and if there are any issues what would those issues are? If this Q-Symphony feature is the only issue between the Samsung HW-Q990B soundbar and the LG 65 G3 TV, it is still worth buying the Samsung HW-Q990B soundbar even if you do not have the Q-Symphony feature for the LG 65 G3 TV.

It was clearly g3 biased, also leaving the game review out and the miliseconds delay between the g3 and samsung..... You saw the delay drop from 8ms to 4.5ms when they went from 60 to 120hz, i guess the 144hz would have braught the samsung down to 4ms or less...... thats significantly better.....
